According to the criminal complaint police found methamphetamine, syringes, a tablet of the prescription drug Gabapentin and drug paraphernalia. Marvin admitted he did not have a prescription for the Gabapentin. Marvin has two pending cases in Green Lake County court and six prior convictions on drug-related offenses dating back to September of 2017. Markesan Fire Chief Steps Down But Remains With The Department
Markesan Fire Department Chief Tom Wilde has stepped down as Fire Chief. He plans to stay on the department for at least one more year which will give him 50 years with the fire department. As the story goes he wanted to be a firefighter when Gerald Westover was the chief. One day in 1973 he got his opportunity when the department was short a person at the Dalton Water fights and Tom stepped in to handle the nozzle. The Markesan team ended up winning the tournament and the next week Chief Westover asked him to join the department as a firefighter. He then became the “Recording Secretary,” worked his way up to assistant chief and took over as Chief in 1998. He did have a couple of close calls over the years, but escaped without injury. Among the witticisms he has offered other firefighters, “If you show up at an incident without your gear you are only an Educated By-Stander.”
Despite Precautions COVID Comes Calling
As we’ve learned during the COVID-19 pandemic no matter how many precautions you take to avoid getting the coronavirus you still run the risk of contracting it. Former Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker learned Wednesday morning he has it. He wasn’t feeling well Tuesday and took at-home COVID tests twice, but they tested negative. Wednesday morning he took another test and this time it was positive. He had gotten both doses of the vaccine and one booster shot. He says he’s grateful he did because the symptoms aren’t as serious and he won’t end up in the hospital plus the antibodies from the disease well help lessen the chances he will get it again. He believes he picked it up while working as a bartender for events at EAA AirVenture last week in Oshkosh. Puhlmann-Becker’s wife had COVID last winter and his parents, who are in their 80’s, are dealing with it this week as well.
