Greenfield Man Arrested Following FDL County Traffic Chase

Fleeing and OWI charges are being brought against a 51-year-old Greenfield man who led Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies on an 11-mile pursuit Saturday night. Sheriff’s officials say it began as calls about a reckless driver in a black pickup truck on Highway 151 southbound in the Town of Taycheedah who was driving all over the road, crossing over the centerline and almost crashed into oncoming traffic. A pursuit followed in and around the city of Fond du Lac. Tire deflation devices were deployed on Highway 151 near County Highway V that flattened the passenger side tires of the pickup. The driver was circling back into the city exiting Highway 151 southbound onto Hickory Street when a deputy rammed the pickup truck causing it to spin off the roadway into a ditch. The driver was taken to the Fond du Lac County where he was booked on a fleeing charge with a pending OWI 6th offense charge. There was minor damage to the pickup and the squad car that hit it. No one was injured during the pursuit. The State Patrol assisted in the chase.

FDL County Fair Security

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says they have an action plan for security at this week’s Fond du Lac County Fair. He says they will have both deputy reserves and full-time deputies working at the fair. Meanwhile an action plan is developed each year incorporating security to address the latest crime trends. He says they have to be mindful of what happened at the Waukesha Christmas Parade, the 4th of July Parade at Highland Park, Illinois and mass shooting events. One change will be barriers put up that cut off vehicle access to the fairgrounds. Other measures will be put in place but for security reasons can’t be revealed. Waldschmidt says their goal is to make sure everyone can enjoy their experience at the fair without having to worry about their own safety. The fair is this Wednesday through Sunday at the County Fairgrounds in Fond du Lac.

Publisher’s Clearing House Scam Continues

Markesan Police say the Publisher’s Clearing House scam continues to target people in the area trying to cheat people out of their money. PCH officials would never call you to tell you that you won something. So if someone claiming to be with them calls you to tell you that you won something, they are lying to you. The other thing PCH will not do is ask you to pay them money for your prize. So if someone is claiming to be with PCH and says that you need to pay fees and taxes to get your prize, they are lying to you. Markesan Police are asking residents to spread the word about the ongoing scam.

Dale Michels Heart & Vascular Care Center Expansion Will Take About A Year

A cardiologist with SSM Health’s Fond du Lac Regional Clinic says they will try to have minimal disruptions to patient care during an $8.5 million expansion of the Dale Michels Heart & Vascular Care Center in Fond du Lac. Dr. Tadeo Diaz Balderrama says there will be some adjustments during the year it may take to do the expansion. The expansion will be done in stages. Since it opened in 2006 life-saving procedures performed at the center have more than doubled. Dale Michels was the owner and president of Michels Pipeline Construction. He died at age 65 following a heart attack in 1998. This is the second large donation supporting heart care made by the Michels family, the first in 2006 when the family gifted $1.5 million to help launch the center.
