Funding Approved For Improvements At Waupun Central Generating Plant

Governor Tony Evers recently announced the Wisconsin State Building Commission approved a total of approximately $71 million in key projects across the state that will address a backlog of deferred maintenance and provide funding for preliminary design for other important projects. Among those projects is constructing water system improvements at the Waupun Central Generating Plant that provides water and other utility services for Waupun Correctional Institution, Dodge Correctional Institution, John C. Burke Correctional Center and the Waupun Dairy. Green Lake County Board Considering Revenue Bond Financing For Bug Tussel Project

The Green Lake County Board of Supervisors could approve a second resolution this month for revenue bond financing for a Bug Tussel Wireless project. County Supervisor Luke Dretske says Bug Tussel is working on improving broadband or internet access in a number of counties. He says more will be known about the agreement with Bug Tussel after the board’s special meeting on July 19th. Dretske says reliable access to the internet is vital to businesses and residents, but also can be an asset when it comes to attracting new business and recruiting employees. The initial resolution approved by the board last month was the first of two needed to help Bug Tussel with financing for the project.

Cruz Versus Elmo

Texas Senator Ted Cruz took on an unlikely political opponent last week when he criticized the Sesame Street character Elmo after the Muppet and his father told children that getting the COVID-19 vaccine was the best way to keep friends and family safe. Elmo’s character is supposed to be 3 ½ years old and the message was a way to promote the availability of the vaccine for young children six months to 5 years of age. Former Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says the Sesame Street piece did stress that people should consult with their pediatrician or doctor first.  However Senator Cruz tweeted that it aggressively advocated for children under 5 to get vaccinated citing zero scientific evidence. Puhlmann-Becker says the vaccine has been highly tested for children under five which is evidence in itself.

COVID Kept Visitors Away From AirVenture

EAA AirVenture rebounded from the pandemic last year with 608,000 people attending, but the annual fly-in event in Oshkosh could have even more visitors later this month. Dick Knapinski of the EAA says there were still a number of international visitors who couldn’t travel last summer because of COVID-19 so they had to skip AirVenture. He is also expecting to see even more people representing aviation and in particular the airlines to attend looking for pilots because of the pilot shortage. The 69th edition of AirVenture is July 25th through July 31st at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
