Waupun Man Injured In Motorcycle Accident
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials say strong winds and lack of experience on a motorcycle led to an accident on County Highway M in the Town of Waupun Sunday afternoon. A 21-year-old Waupun man was heading north on the highway and was unable to maintain control of the bike, which went into a ditch and overturned multiple times. The driver was ejected but was wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet. He was flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with serious injuries. The accident on County Highway M near Amity Road was reported just after 4 pm.
FDL County DA On Roe Versus Wade Decision
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Decision Friday to overturn Roe versus Wade making abortion a state issue his office will enforce Wisconsin’s abortion ban. He says the abortion debate is an emotional topic for many, which has resulted in acts of domestic terrorism and acts of political violence. He says his office will also vigorously prosecute threats or acts of violence against any interested individuals or organizations. Toney says political violence, intimidation, or threats have no place in our society. Toney is also running as a candidate for State Attorney General.
Suspicious Incident In Markesan
Markesan Police are warning residents after a suspicious incident in the city last Thursday. A man came to a resident’s home claiming he was from their mortgage company and needed to go inside to inspect the home. The owner denied him access and the man became upset. He showed the homeowner a very short and generic letter explaining why he was there. He then sat in his dark-colored SUV for a moment, took a couple of pictures of the home and left. Police say the property owner did the right thing. They say bank or mortgage companies that need something from you would reach out in advance to schedule something. If someone shows up unannounced at your residence and says they need to enter your home call police.

It is hoped the partnership will cultivate stronger relationships with businesses, the city, adjacent organizations, and residents. The new partnership includes a shared office at 321 East Main Street in downtown Waupun. It will be staffed Tuesdays from 8 am to noon and Thursdays from 1 to 5 pm. Additional times can be made available for appointments and special projects.
School Safety
The Ripon Area School District’s Safety Team recently updated the School Board on measures that would be taken should the district ever face a scenario similar to what happened at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas last month. District and Ripon Police officials were also on hand for the presentation to the board. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says they train for such unimaginable events. An incident Command Format would come into play where they would restructure the workings of the district to work with police, fire and EMS. She says they would keep families and the public updated through their Facebook and District website pages and through an emailed incident campus messenger update. Whitrock says they do have school evacuation and reunification plans as well that they can use depending on the situation.
Foot Wear Important As You Age
A podiatrist for SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital says as you get older your feet change. Your skin becomes thinner, your joints become arthritic, arches flatten, feet get wider, your blood flow decreases, and your extremities swell. Dr. Molly Meier says that is why it is so important to make sure you have proper fitting footwear. She says when you’re buying shoes walk around the store with both shoes on. That will help ensure that the shoe is both long and wide enough for your foot. Shoes should have a still bottom for support and the bottom should be non-slip to help prevent falls. She also recommends adding your own inserts. Meier says aging does not have to slow you down. To make an appointment for foot care with her call 920-926-8282.
COVID Comes To City Hall
Those watching the recent Ripon Common Council meeting from home or online may have seen more Council members and city officials wearing face coverings. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker formerly of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says there’s a good reason that precaution was being taken because several city staff had come down with the coronavirus. He says it is a great example of when you should wear a facial covering. He says in those chambers it is also pretty difficult to keep a social distance of at least six feet apart and Council meetings are typically much longer than 15 minutes.
