Beaver Dam Man Sentenced For Possessing Meth Lab Materials

A 34-year-old Beaver Dam man has been sentenced to two years in prison and three years of extended supervision for possession of materials for manufacturing methamphetamine. In October of 2021 Beaver Dam Police and the Dodge County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant for a residence and backyard on Wall Street and found a methamphetamine cooking lab. Lloyd Law, one of the tenants, was on probation for meth possession. He eventually admitted the cooking materials found in a shed belonged to him and his first batch didn’t turn out good so he disposed of it and bought some in Appleton. Dodge County District Attorney Kurt Klomberg says the manufacturing of methamphetamine is extremely dangerous and a prison sentence was warranted.

FDL County Executive Election Winner Threatened

A victory celebration for the winner of a special election for Fond du Lac County executive Tuesday night was overshadowed by a threat. Sam Kaufman a county board member from Waupun won Tuesday’s election beating two write-in candidates. Kaufman says at least one group from outside the county took interest in the election. He says as a result he received some harassment and some false allegations were made against him. Kaufman says there was a threat that there might be some protests at his election night party so a sheriff’s deputy was stationed outside of it. The election night party was held at Schmitty’s Oar House in Fond du Lac. Kaufman was sworn in as the third County Executive in Fond du Lac County’s history Thursday.   Fond du Lac County Executive Allen Buechel died unexpectedly in March. Kaufman will serve out his term which runs through April of 2025.

Ripon Community Hospital Recognized For Organ And Tissue Donation Program

SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital was among 17 hospitals honored by University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation for its ongoing commitment to saving and improving lives through organ and tissue donation. The hospital received the Excellence in Tissue Donation Award, which is given to partner hospitals who achieve at least a 60 percent consent rate. The hospital actually had an 80 percent consent rate. Four of the people who died at the hospital in 2021 were tissue donor heroes. Ashley Kolberg is the hospital’s Emergency Department Nurse Manager. She says the organ and tissue donations give people receiving them a second chance on life whether saving their life or improving it in some way. Before anything is harvested a donor has to have given consent on their driver’s license or the family has to consent. There are currently 1,500 people in Wisconsin on waiting lists for organ transplants.

Parade Time Will Remain The Same For Green Lake Fourth Of July

Green Lake’s Chamber of Commerce this year explored the possibility of moving the 4th of July Parade to an earlier time in the day, 10:30 in the morning. Chamber Executive Director Lisa Meier told us it would have given families more time to enjoy other activities before returning at dusk for fireworks. But they decided to stick with the traditional time of 4 pm for the parade. Meier says they are still taking donations for the fireworks celebration. The cost of fireworks went up 20 percent this year. A mass mailing was sent out with information on how to donate or you can donate online on the Visit Green Lake.com website.  The Light Up the Lake 4th Of July celebration in Green Lake will start out that day with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 am at the Green Lake American Legion Hall.
