Road Rage Incident In Columbia County
Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 43-year-old Wisconsin Dells man Sunday afternoon for a road rage incident during which he allegedly brandished what looked like a handgun. The incident happened on County Highway P in the Town of Pacific and was reported by a 911 caller just before 2 pm. The gun turned out to be a realistic looking pellet gun. A deputy located the suspect vehicle in the Village of Pardeeville. The driver Jerome Houston is facing a number of charges including disorderly conduct while armed with a dangerous weapon. A passenger, 41-year-old Amanda Clauer also of Wisconsin Dells, was charged with obstructing an officer. A young child was also present in the suspect vehicle. Click It Or Ticket
The annual Click it or Ticket campaign began Monday and runs through June 5th. Law enforcement agencies will be stepping up enforcement for drivers and passengers who are not wearing their seat belts. State Department of Transportation officials say Wisconsin’s seat belt use is dropping. A seat belt survey found about 88 percent of Wisconsin drivers and passengers buckled up in 2021. That number was down two percentage points from 2019 and lags behind the national rate of about 90 percent. The campaign comes as Wisconsin gets ready for the first summer travel holiday of the year.

COVID Denial
Former Ripon COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says among the more interesting articles he read were a few that speculated some people last fall were not getting tested out of fear they would have to be isolated if they tested positive. He says in some cases it involved people who were involved in athletics who didn’t want to jeopardize their teams becoming shorthanded if they didn’t play. He says some of this occurred in wealthy suburbs but also in places most of us are acquainted with. Puhlmann-Becker says at the time you were looking at being isolated for up to 10 days, but now that has dropped down to a more manageable 5 days.
Ballweg Wraps Up Listening Sessions
State Senator Joan Ballweg wrapped up her listening sessions held across the 14th State Senate District with sessions in Randolph and Ripon last Thursday. Overall she hosted seven sessions at various locations. She says it gives her a chance to recap what occurred during the past legislative session and also to hear about resident’s concerns, which she says differed from area to area but covered a little bit of everything. She is proud of the work she accomplished during the past session because 21 pieces of legislation she authored or co-authored were passed into law.
Graduation Caravan
It began out of necessity but now a Graduation Caravan in Ripon has become a tradition for seniors graduating from high school. Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says the caravan was a way to make things special for seniors in 2020 when COVID-19 meant foregoing the traditional graduation ceremony, but now it is part of the tradition even though they have been able to hold the traditional ceremony the last two years. She says anyone that wants to participate this Saturday morning at 9:30 am is welcome to do so. It will begin at Murray Park proceed to Barlow Park and then the Ripon High School. The graduation ceremony is at 11 am at the high school.
