Waupaca Man Suspected Of Fourth OWI Offense

Early Sunday morning the State Patrol arrested a 46-year-old Waupaca man suspected of his 4th operating a motor vehicle while under the influence offense. John Condradt was pulled over on Main and Deer Streets in Waupaca for not displaying a front license plate and failing to stop at a stop sign. As the Trooper approached Conradt, Conradt showed signs of impairment. He also showed signs of impairment during subsequent field sobriety testing. Conradt was arrested and was taken to the Waupaca County Jail. He was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign, no front license plate, and his 4th OWI offense.

FDL County Now Has A Medium Community COVID Level

According to the CDC as of this past Thursday Fond du Lac County is experiencing a Medium Community Level of COVID-19. Community Levels measure the impact of COVID-19 illness on health and healthcare systems. A medium level means individuals should talk to their healthcare provider about whether they need to wear a mask and take other precautions, stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, and get tested if you have symptoms. Other area counties in the medium level are Winnebago, Green Lake, and Waushara. Dodge and Waupaca counties are in the low community level.

New Alice In Dairyland Crowned

75th Alice in Dairyland Taylor Schaefer

Wisconsin has a new Alice in Dairyland, Taylor Schaefer of Franksville was crowned the 75th Alice during finals this weekend.  She grew up raising livestock on her family’s beef and crop farm and served as a youth leader in the Racine County 4-H program. She went on to study at the UW-Madison. She has since joined the Animal and Dairy Science Department at the UW-Madison as a digital media intern and the Mid-West Farm Report as a farm assistant. This month she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences and life sciences communication and a certificate in digital studies. Upon graduation, she accepted a position with the Mid-West Farm Report in Madison. Schaefer was one of six finalists for the 75th Alice in Dairyland.  She will begin her term on July 5th. She succeeds Julia Nunes of Chippewa Falls, who will continue her current term as the 74th Alice in Dairyland until the transition in July.

Border Crisis

Congressman Glenn Grothman says the crisis at our southern border should be a higher priority for the Biden Administration. The Homeland Security Department says there were over 234,000 migrant encounters at the border in April. According to court documents the Biden Administration allowed the release of 118,000 illegal immigrants into the country last month. Grothman says the problem will become even larger with the expiration of Title 42 in the next week. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says the number of illegal immigrants entering the border between March and April went up another 15,000 to 20,000. He says by talking about COVID, the Ukraine and other issues the President is distracting us from what is going on at the border.

Brandon And Fairwater Memorial Day Ceremonies

Memorial Day ceremonies in Brandon and Fairwater will include ceremonies in both communities put on by the Mattox Henslin American Legion Post. The parade will line up at 8:30 am to Depot Park in Brandon and will kick off at 9 am proceeding to Brandon Park for ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial with the Laconia High School Band. The Bethel Reformed Church Quilt Ministry will also present some quilts. In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be at the Brandon Fire Station. In Fairwater at 10:30 am there will be a ceremony at the bridge to honor veterans lost at sea. At 11 am there will be a ceremony at the Civic Center Gymnasium. There will be another quilt presentation. Music will be provided by the Markesan Junior High Band. During ceremonies in both Brandon and Fairwater the Keynote speaker is Post Commander Larry Beuthin who will talk about the reason for Memorial Day and Darrel Rahn will talk about Honor Flight memories.

New Principal Recommendation

Lindsey Biesack is being recommended to serve as the new principal of the Oshkosh Area School District’s Shapiro STEM Academy. The appointment is on the School Board’s agenda Wednesday. Pending board approval the appointment will begin on July 1st.  She currently serves as principal of the District’s Washington Elementary School. She has an extensive background as an educator, with the ability to develop relationships with students, staff, and families. Biesack says she’s eager to join the Shapiro team and is grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the Oshkosh community.

EMR Startup Grant Was Vital

Waupun Fire Department Chief B.J. DeMaa says a $4,000 startup grant SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac Region gave them for their Emergency Medical Responder services really got the program off the ground. The EMR services have been offered in the City of Waupun since this past February providing initial patient care until an ambulance arrives or assisting paramedics at the scene.  He says the SSM Health donation helped them in getting bags and the equipment carried in each bag that the EMRs are equipped with. The Waupun Ambulance District covers about 200 square miles. In the last year, the District has experienced an 18 percent increase in 9-1-1 ambulance calls.

Leadership FDL Completion

Leadership Fond du Lac recently wrapped up their completion ceremony for their class of 2022. Envision Greater Fond du Lac President and CEO Sadie Vander Velde says it was there 22nd class. Over nine months the class goes in depth looking at the community. She says the goal is to develop leaders of tomorrow whether that’s in their fields, local or government offices. The class is broken up into teams for fundraising projects. One of the more interesting ones benefitted the Tails for Life program that matches service dogs with children with disabilities and they needed turf replaced for where the dogs exercise and train. She says they are taking applications for the next class which will begin in September. Vander Velde took the class four years ago and says she got a lot out of it.
