Baby Formula Online Scams
The Better Business Bureau is warning new moms not to get scammed online when they are looking for baby formula. The baby formula shortage has created an opportunity for scammers. Here’s how the scam works. An ad, post, or social media group posts they have baby formula available. The buyer contacts the seller via chat or direct message, showing photos of the cans available. The buyer makes a payment through a peer-to-peer platform such as PayPal or Venmo, but the formula never arrives. Signs of a potential scam include positive reviews that may have been copied from an honest site. No brick-and-mortar address or the address shows on Google map as something other than what is listed on the website. Misspellings and grammatical errors, or language inconsistent with the product is another telling indication. Once payment clears the seller is unreachable. The BBB advises researching the website first and reporting any fraud that occurs.
Journey School Continues Without Charter Title
Kindergarten through second grade students in the Ripon Area School District will continue to have the option of project-based learning, but not through the Journey Charter School during the next school year. Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says the state charter is ending so Journey will run on a local agreement as the Journey Project School. She says the school didn’t need any state exemptions so it didn’t need a charter title. Project-based Learning will remain the method of instruction for all students, the school will continue to run with Governance Council oversight, and there will be no change in staffing. Because of low attendance the Barlow Park Legacy School will close.
Waupun EMR Service
Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says their Emergency Medical Responder services has worked out well in its first few months providing initial patient care until an ambulance arrives or assisting paramedics at the scene. Currently they have 12 people acting as EMRs with the hope that they can add a couple more. DeMaa says the City of Waupun is the hub of the Waupun Ambulance District providing coverage for about 200 square miles. In the last year, the District has experienced an 18 percent increase in 9-1-1 ambulance calls. DeMaa says the EMR service can fill gaps when they need to call in an ambulance from a neighboring community because their ambulances are out on other calls. He says they can provide basic medical services until the ambulance arrives. He says their EMRs carry a medical bag with them wherever they are in a community so they can provide help on the spot.
