The Winnebago County Sheriff’s office confirms human remains from two people have been found inside a home in the Town of Clayton following a house fire. Captain Lara Vendola-Messer says reports also indicated there may have been shots fired in the area. On Tuesday around 7:00am, deputies from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and multiple area fire and first responder agencies responded to a house fire at 3302 Breezewood Lane. Deputies attempted to enter the residence upon learning there were two potential victims inside, but they were unable to due to the smoke and flames. Until the Sheriff’s Office is able to positively identify the remains of those two people, the original attempt to locate 35-year-old Jeremy Wallenfang will remain active. However, Vendola-Messer says they have no current leads and are not actively pursuing his location at this time. She anticipates it will take several days to positively identify the remains of the deceased.

A Republican bill that would impose new work and job training requirements for federal food stamps could force nearly 76,000 Wisconsin recipients out of the program. A Legislative Fiscal Bureau analysis of the bill Democratic lawmakers released Tuesday found that the bill would prohibit states from offering food stamp eligibility for needy families that receive federal assistance or use federal programs to help the poor. According to the report, 11.1 percent of Wisconsin food stamp recipients would likely lose eligibility. That translates to 75,720 of 682,924 recipients. About 23,370 children would likely lose food stamp eligibility and with it eligibility for free and reduced school lunches. State Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling ripped the bill at a news conference Tuesday, saying making children go hungry is cruel and heartless.
