Vehicular Homicide Suspect Bound Over For Trial

A 47-year-old Horicon man has been bound over for trial on vehicular homicide charges in Dodge County. Daniel Bryfczynski waived his preliminary hearing last Thursday and pled not guilty when he was arraigned on four felony and two misdemeanor charges.  Prosecutors say he had multiple drugs in his system when he fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck and crossed over the centerline on State Highway 33 and hit another car. The accident last June 16th in the town of Oak Grove killed a 50-year-old Lake Mills woman, injured a 12-year-old passenger in her car, and hurt a passenger in Bryfczynski’s truck. He allegedly admitted to investigators he had smoked marijuana while he was out fishing that day. But a blood test revealed he also had cocaine, ketamine, and opiates in his system.

Kaufman Will Campaign For FDL County Executive

Sam Kaufman

Fond du Lac County Supervisor Sam Kaufman is the only person who will be on the ballot for the special election for County Executive on June 7th, but he isn’t taking that for granted. The unexpected death of County Executive Allen Buechel on March 27th precipitated the special election and appointments of an Acting County Executive and Interim County Executive to fill the void. Kaufman says you can never rule out a write-in campaign, but he will be campaigning because it will give him a chance to meet with people, introduce himself and and for them to express any concerns they have about county government. Kaufman is a lawyer by trade and has been a County Supervisor representing a portion of the Waupun area for 6 years, he also has been on the Waupun Town Board for 4 years.

Sexual Assault Awareness Display

Ripon Police photo

An eye-catching display in front of the Ripon Police Station is helping to create awareness about Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Police Chief Bill Wallner says people can’t help but take a glimpse at the clothes line full of blue jeans. He says that is in recognition of Denim Day which is held on April 27th each year. The origin of Denim Day is from an Italian Court Case where the defendant’s case hinged on the claim that the victim consented to the assault because she was wearing jeans that were too tight. That created an international movement that sparked “Denim Day.” The display outside of the Ripon Police Station was put together by ASTOP which aids victims of sexual assault through advocacy, education, and by creating awareness about the problem.

Do Not Eat The Chocolate Bunny All At Once

Janeah Schwarz is a clinical nutrition manager and registered dietitian nutritionist for SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac Region who has some suggestions about managing prediabetes. She oversees programs for SSM Health hospitals in Fond du Lac, Ripon and Waupun. She says about 96 million Americans are diabetic and 80 percent of them aren’t aware of it because they don’t get regular checkups. She says if you are 45 or older, inactive, overweight, smoke or suffer from sleep disorders you are more likely to have prediabetes and run the risk of becoming diabetic. She says exercising and losing some weight, eating healthy and quitting smoking can reduce your risk. Schwarz says changes don’t have to be made all at once they can be gradual, but for your own sake you should see that they happen.
