Journey Charter School Decision

The Journey Governance Council will take a vote at their April 11th meeting to recommend the Journey Governance Council and Ripon School Board enter into a local agreement in lieu of a state charter agreement. If the Council approves the local agreement in April, the item would be up for a vote at the School Board’s April 18th meeting. If approved Journey Charter School would become Journey Project School. Project-based Learning would remain the method of instruction for all students, the school would continue to run with Governance Council oversight, and there would be no change in staffing.  If the School Board approves the local agreement, Journey will become the non-charter school option for Ripon Area School District’s K-2 students starting with the 2022-2023 school year. Because of low attendance the Barlow Park Legacy School would close.

Ag Funds Repurposed

Governor Toney Evers recently signed legislation into law authored by Senator Joan Ballweg and State Representative Tony Kurtz that supplements previous Ag legislation signed into law. The original law provides an export initiative aimed at achieving certain export initiatives by June 30th of 2026. The supplemental legislation directs unused funding from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to help promote Wisconsin dairy exports. Ballweg says the funding originally came from the federal government for a revolving loan fund used for dairy development and innovation. The state lawmaker from Markesan says there was about $900,000 set aside for that defunct loan program. She says they discovered the money while working on the state budget. The bill signing was hosted by Sargento Cheese in Plymouth.

Organizers of the Boy & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area’s Wearin’ & $harin’ The Green event say the Saturday, March 12th fundraiser at the Heidel House was a success. Mindy Collado is the Director of Operations for the club. She says it was great to stage the 19th annual event in-person again and they had a nearly sold out room. It is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the club, which has locations in Berlin, Green Lake, and will be expanding to Ripon. She says money raised during the event goes right back into funding programming for kids that attend club activities and programs.
