Sports for March 28th

De’Anthony Melton had 24 points, Desmond Bane added 20 and the Memphis Grizzlies continued to win in the absence of scoring leader Ja Morant, beating the Milwaukee Bucks 127-102 on Saturday night.  Dillon Brooks scored 19 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. had 16 and two blocks to help Memphis win its fourth straight and eighth in the last nine games. Melton was 8 of 11 from the field, going 6 of 9 from 3-point range.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 30 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, scoring 18 points in the third quarter when Milwaukee tried to make a run. Khris Middleton added 16 points. The defending champion Bucks (46-28) lost for only the third time in the last 13 games.

Milwaukee dropped into a tie for third with Boston in the Eastern Conference, a half-game behind Philadelphia and Miami.

Antetokounmpo was listed as questionable before the game with a sore right knee, but after going through pregame warmups was deemed ready to play. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies continued to play without Morant who is nursing a sore right knee.

The Bucks are at Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

NFC North rival Minnesota added a Packers’ free agent for the second time this week. This time it’s defensive back Chandon Sullivan joining the Vikings. NFL Network was first to report the news with Sullivan’s agent, Michael Katz, tweeting the free agent DB was signing with Minnesota. The terms of the deal have not been reported.

Sullivan originally signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018, and played in five games for Philadelphia after starting the season on their practice squad. He was signed by the Packers in during the 2019 offseason and made the roster during training camp. He would go on to rack up five interceptions and 16 pass break-ups in 28 games with the Packers during the last three seasons.  Minnesota also signed former Packers pass rusher Za’Darius Smith earlier this week.

Men’s NCAA Basketball (Sun.)

Ochai Agbaji, David McCormack and Christian Braun powered a dazzling second half for Kansas, and the top-seeded Jayhawks pounded Miami to advance to the program’s 16th Final Four with a 76-50  win over Miami.

Agbaji scored 18 points, McCormack had 15 and Braun finished with 12, helping Kansas rally after a lackluster start. The Jayhawks trailed by six points at halftime but outscored Miami 47-15 in the final 20 minutes.

Kansas (32-6), the only No. 1 seed left in the NCAA Tournament, won the Midwest for the 13th time with its ninth consecutive victory overall. Next up is the national semifinals and a matchup with Villanova on Saturday in New Orleans.

North Carolina crushed all hope of a March Madness miracle in the early going Sunday, getting 20 points and 22 rebounds from Armando Bacot in a wire-to-wire 69-49 runaway over 15th-seeded Saint Peter’s. The eighth-seeded Tar Heels (28-9) made their record 21st Final Four, and next on their list is none other than archrival Duke and its soon-to-be-retiring coach, Mike Krzyzewski.  Fousseyni Drame led Saint Peter’s with 12 points and KC Ndefo had 10.

Next Saturday in New Orleans will mark the first Final Four meeting — first NCAA Tournament meeting, in fact — between the Tobacco Road archrivals whose campuses are separated by 11 miles.

On Saturday @2 seed Villanova beat #5 seed Houston 50-44 and #2 Duke defeated #4 Arkansas 78-69.

In the Cactus League this afternoon the Brewers host the Giants.  First pitch is at 3:10 CDT.

In golf, Scottie Scheffler moved to the number one ranking on the PGA Tour after winning the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship on Sunday over Kevin Kisner 4 & 3.  It was Scheffler’s third win this year in five starts.
