Credit Card Scam

Markesan Police recently reported receiving numerous calls from community members about a credit card scam. The scammer will state they are calling to advise the person that they either have found your credit card, they want to help you lower your interest rate or they are calling to tell you about suspicious activity on your account. Police say if you get that type of call it is best to hang up or let it go your voicemail. If you give out information about your credit cards or yourself the caller may be able to steal your identity or run up your credit card bill.

Perspectives On Need For COVID Vaccine Still Divided

A member of disbanded Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the pandemic may be slowing down but we remain a divided nation when it comes to being vaccinated for it. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says in one online forum he was reading some argued that telling them they needed to be vaccinated was like telling them they needed to wear a seatbelt on an airplane. He says the author of the comment was overlooking the danger to themselves and others, which is the whole point for getting vaccinated. Heading into the weekend 3.7 million people in Wisconsin had received at least one shot of the vaccine or just over 64 percent of the population and just under 61 percent had completed the vaccine series.

Eventful Spring And Summer In Green Lake

It’s going to be a big spring and summer for the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce as they celebrate the community’s 175th anniversary. Chamber Executive Director Lisa Meier says things kicked off this past week with their annual meeting at the Heidel House. This May they will hold a job fair for students who will be taking summer jobs in the area. There will be bicycling events, summer concerts and their 4th of July celebration. Meier says one of the things they need to do is gather donations for the fireworks celebration on the fourth. They are also hoping to see a good turnout of businesses and organizations for the parade. Meier says one thing they will be doing soon is posting video of drone footage of the lake and the fireworks celebration from the last Fourth of July on their Facebook page, which is something special to see.
