Sports for Tuesday
Anfernee Simons scored 31 points and the Portland Trail Blazers capitalized on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s absence, beating the Milwaukee Bucks 122-107 on Monday night for their third straight victory. Simons has averaged 30 points and has shot 18 of 39 from 3-point range during Portland’s winning streak. Josh Hart scored 27 points and Jusuf Nurkic had 23 points and 16 rebounds as the Trail Blazers continued to thrive after reshaping their roster at the trade deadline. Portland outrebounded Milwaukee 58-43.
Antetokounmpo didn’t play for the Bucks due to a sore left ankle. Milwaukee coach Mike Budenholzer said before the game he believes it’s a short-term issue. Veteran center Serge Ibaka, who was acquired last week in a trade, made his Bucks debut Monday and filled Antetokounmpo’s spot in the starting lineup. Ibaka had the Bucks’ first six points, but didn’t score again in his 31-minute outing, though he did have seven rebounds.
Jrue Holiday led the Bucks with 23 points. Bobby Portis and Jordan Nwora had 17 each. Khris Middleton was one assist from a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
The Bucks host the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. The Bucks have won their last seven matchups with the Pacers and are 3-0 against them this season.
Milwaukee Bucks guard Pat Connaughton underwent surgery on his fractured right hand on Monday, the team announced. Connaughton suffered a fractured fourth metacarpel against the Suns on February 10th, and underwent surgery in New York on Monday. The Bucks expect Connaughton to miss four weeks due to the injury. This season Connaughton is averaging a career high 10 points per game, and has made 18 starts for Milwaukee.
Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t made up his mind if he’ll come back to play another season. Still, the Packers are reportedly ready to offer the four time MVP quarterback a deal that would make him the highest paid in the NFL.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network was the first to report that Rodgers’ relationship with the Packers front office is the best it’s been in years and leading to growing optimism that he’ll return to Green Bay. The Packers front office, according to Rapoport, is also willing to offer Rodgers an extension that would push towards the the salary cap and make QB1 the highest paid in the league in terms of annual salary. That deal would likely require voidable years tacked on to help with salary cap concerns. Rodgers does have one year remaining on his current contract, but the Packers have plenty of issues to take care of this offseason considering they’re $48.9 million dollars over the projected cap, according to ESPN Stat’s and Information.
Rodgers has said he will make a decision about his future before free agency starts next month
