The Green Bay Packers have promoted Adam Stenavich to offensive coordinator. Head Coach Matt LaFleur made the announcement Monday.

Stenavich served as the offensive line coach for the Packers in 2019-20 and added the duties of run game coordinator in 2021. Last season, he helped an offense that saw RBs Aaron Jones (1,190) and AJ Dillon (1,116) become only the second RB duo in team history to both register 1,100-plus yards from scrimmage in the same season (2021), joining John Brockington (1,270) and MacArthur Lane (1,106) in 1972. Green Bay led the NFL in time of possession in each of the last two seasons (2020-21) and tied for No. 1 in the NFL (Minnesota, Seattle) in turnovers (13) in 2021, becoming the first team in NFL history to have 13 or fewer giveaways in three consecutive seasons (2019-21). In 2020, Stenavich coached a line that blocked for an offense that ranked No. 1 in the league in scoring (31.8 ppg), giveaways (team-record 11) and time of possession (32:29), tied for No. 2 in sacks allowed (21), No. 5 in total offense (389.0 ypg) and No. 3 in yards per play (6.29). Green Bay allowed one sack/zero sacks in a league-high 13 games in 2020, tied for the most in a season in team history (2004). The line helped lead the way for Jones to set a single-season franchise mark for yards per carry (league-best 5.49) among players with 200-plus attempts, surpassing FB Jim Taylor’s mark of 5.42 yards per carry in 1962.

Stenavich came to the Packers after serving as the assistant offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017-18. Prior to joining the 49ers, Stenavich spent six years in the college ranks. He first worked as a strength and conditioning intern at the University of Michigan (2011), then a graduate assistant for the Wolverines (2012-13) and then coached the offensive lines at Northern Arizona University (2014) and San Jose State (2015-16). The Marshfield, Wis., native played left tackle at Michigan (2002-05) and was named first-team All-Big Ten in 2004-05. Following his collegiate career, Stenavich signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was signed to the Packers’ practice squad in 2006, played for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europa in 2007, spent the 2008 training camp with the Dallas Cowboys and was on the Houston Texans’ practice squad for two seasons (2009-10).

Auburn remained No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll for the second straight week, while Kentucky jumped into the top five for the first time in more than two years. Bruce Pearl’s Tigers earned 49 of 61 first-place votes to extend the program’s first stay at the top and stay comfortably ahead of Gonzaga, which earned the other 12 first-place votes. Auburn (20-1) has won 17 straight games since losing a double-overtime game to Connecticut in November.

UCLA climbed to No. 3, followed by Purdue — which claimed its first No. 1 ranking earlier this season — and Kentucky. John Calipari’s Wildcats (17-4) had the week’s biggest jump, rising seven spots after winning by 18 at Kansas on Saturday.

Houston and Arizona were next, followed by reigning national champion Baylor — which spent five weeks at No. 1 but has split its last six games after Saturday’s loss at Alabama. The Bears’ four-spot slide marked the first time the Big 12 hasn’t had at least one team in the top five since the final poll of the 2018-19 season.

Duke and Kansas rounded out the top 10, with the Jayhawks falling five spots after the Kentucky loss.

Wisconsin remained at No. 11. No. 24 Marquette fell two spots.

No. 25 LSU took the week’s biggest tumble, falling six spots after losing at TCU. Texas re-joined the poll at No. 23 as the lone new addition following a one-week absence in a season that saw the Longhorns open at No. 5.

Davidson fell out of the poll from No. 25 after earning the program’s first AP Top 25 ranking since March 2015.

Kirk Cousins will be the Pro Bowl injury replacement for Aaron Rodgers for a third time. The Minnesota Vikings quarterback was added to the NFC roster for the game in Las Vegas. Rodgers played much of the season for the Green Bay Packers with a broken toe. Cousins was also picked as the fill-in for Rodgers after the 2019 season with Minnesota and after the 2016 season with Washington.  The 33-year-old Cousins was one of two players in the NFL this season with 30-plus touchdown passes and fewer than 10 interceptions. Rodgers was the other.

In the NBA tonight Washington plays at Milwaukee. The Bucks (31-21) are fourth in the tightly bunched Eastern Conference, just 1 ½ games out of first place.  The Bulls and the Heat are tied for the top spot, a half-game ahead of the 76ers and one game in front of the Cavaliers.

Tom Brady said on his podcast that he’s “still going through the process” and hasn’t decided when to announce his plans on whether to play or retire.

Asked if he has a timeline, Brady said: “I don’t know. I’ll know when the time is right. Like I’ve always said, I’m very blessed to play as long as I have. As things have gone on in the later parts of my career … there’s a lot of interest in when I’m going to stop playing. I understand that. When I know, I’ll know. When I don’t know, I don’t know. I’m not going to race to some conclusion about that.”

ESPN, citing sources, reported Saturday that Brady would retire from the NFL. The sources told ESPN that Brady knew the NFC divisional playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams would likely be his last, and that he’d spent time afterward preparing for an announcement. ESPN also reported that it was unknown when Brady would formalize his plans to retire, but that he would not do it to upstage the NFL’s postseason games, including the Super Bowl.

Four candidates remain in the Minnesota Vikings head coaching search, and that includes University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

The Vikings plan to fly in Harbaugh for an interview on Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero Monday, per sources.

Harbaugh now joins Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell, Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham as contenders for the job left vacant following the firing of Mike Zimmer.

Not among the candidates is 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans. Ryans declined a second interview with Minnesota, opting to further his development with San Francisco, Pelissero reported.

The Wisconsin Badgers filled one of the biggest openings on their coaching staff with the addition of Bobby Engram hired as the team’s offensive coordinator. The athletic department made the official announcement on Monday afternoon Engram had joined the staff in Madison. Engram spent the last eight seasons working with the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL. Engram spent the first five years as the Ravens wide receivers coach before transitioning to the tight ends coach for the last three seasons. Engram takes over for long time assistant Joe Rudolph, who left to become the offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech.

For the second time in four weeks, Ripon College junior forward Alison Leslie has been selected as Midwest Conference Women’s Basketball Performer of the Week, as released Monday by the conference office. In Ripon’s only game last week, Leslie led the Red Hawks to a 77-72 overtime win against Cornell. She scored 10 of her team-high 20 points in the overtime period, while shooting 7-for-14 from the field and 4-for-9 from 3-point range in the contest. She also added five rebounds, two assists, and one steal, while playing 41 minutes.
Leslie currently ranks ninth in the MWC in scoring with 13.2 points per game, while leading the conference in 3-point shooting (.400) and ranking second in 3-pointers per game (2.6).

The New Orleans Pelicans announced they have signed Wisconsin Herd forward Wenyen Gabriel to a 10-day hardship contract. This is Gabriel’s second call-up and his fourth 10-day contract this season. The Wisconsin Herd has had seven call-ups this season. Gabriel signed his first 10-day contract of the season with the Brooklyn Nets on December 21, 2021. Before returning to the Herd, Wenyen Gabriel signed a 10-day contract with the Clippers on December 31, 2021. He signed a second 10-day with the Clippers on January 11, 2021. During those contracts, Gabriel appeared in six games averaging 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Gabriel has appeared in 14 games (12 starts) for the Wisconsin Herd this season, averaging 14.1 points on .464 percent shooting from the field and .350 percent shooting from three-point range, 8.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 2.1 blocks in 25.9 minutes per contest.

A hardship contract is a temporary roster spot that allows teams to add more players beyond their roster limit. Teams are allowed to do this when they have experienced multiple players being out due to injury or illness.   The Wisconsin Herd will play on the road against the Lakeland Magic on February 3 with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
