FDL Theft Suspect Arrested After Chase In Beaver Dam

Beaver Dam Police Wednesday afternoon arrested a man wanted in connection with a theft in Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac Police put out an “attempt to locate” notification for a white cargo van and a Beaver Dam Police officer spotted it driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 151. A chase ensued and the van exited onto Highway 33 driving into the City of Beaver Dam. The pursuit ended when the van went off the road and rolled over several times near Highway 151 and County Highway D. The driver got out of it and attempted to flee across a field but the snow was too deep and he was eventually captured. He was treated for minor injuries at the hospital in Beaver Dam and was then taken to the Dodge County Jail on several felony charges and numerous warrants.

State Funds Help With Ripon Storm Damage Costs

Ripon City Administrator Adam Sonntag this week informed the Common Council that the city was awarded nearly $120,000 from the Wisconsin Disaster Fund to help with costs associated with last July’s storm damage. An earlier grant of nearly $23,000 was awarded by the DNR. Total state assistance was more than $142,500 of the estimated $194,508 in storm damage expenditures. Sonntag says another nearly $47,000 in damage claims was paid off by the city’s insurance carrier. He says overall the costs associated with clean up from the storm won’t be a significant burden to the city and its residents.

COVID News

Every new day seems to bring a new twist to news about the COVID-19 pandemic. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says there was a couple to report this week. We learned that there is a new variant, but Dr. Anthony Fauci assures us it is not as virulent as the omicron and delta variants. Puhlmann-Becker says we are not taking a step backwards with this variant. With the omicron and delta variants we saw new surges of cases. Puhlmann-Becker says the other news is that Pfizer is testing a vaccine specifically designed to battle the omicron variant. He says the vaccines are still very effective especially in combination with a booster, but the science has improved and this could lead to a better vaccine as well.

Inflation Situation

Congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s very aware of the impact inflation is having on people in Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District and across the country. He says whether you are running a factory, buying groceries or paying energy costs for running your car or heating your home, your dollar isn’t going as far. He says the federal government shouldn’t increase overall spending as it has been until inflation can be brought under control. The federal lawmaker blames the Biden Administration in part for passing trillions of dollars in new spending bills.
