Ripon, WI- Ripon Public Library is excited to announce its January 2022 lineup of special events for all ages! Thanks to funding from the Friends of the library, events and special offerings are always free. Currently masks are required for ages 5 and up. Registration is not required unless noted.
January Programs
Wild Child Nature Hikes
Build better brains and bodies with active outdoor discovery! Join Youth Services Librarian Linda DeCramer for walks, talks, and STEAM-inspired enrichment activities in the great outdoors at local nature venues. Meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18 at South Woods (N7974 Union St, Ripon) and January 25, at Riggs County Park (N8137 Douglas St, Ripon.) Supplies for the day’s walk provided. Bring your sense of wonder, discovery, and a willingness to share your own knowledge. Designed for kids 3-6 years, but enjoyable for all ages. Arrive a few minutes early to the designated location, dressed for the weather! Rain or a temperature/windchill of 10° or below will result in cancellation. Cancellations will be posted on the library website by 8 a.m.
Winter Sillies Storytime
Storytime focuses on active learning and fun! On Wednesdays, January 19 and 26 at 10 a.m., early literacy and STEM concepts come to life through stories, music, movement, and enrichment activities. On January 19, Slumber-time Sillies celebrates the cozy joy of winter’s extended bedtime routines! On January 26, Not-a-Box celebrates the creativity that comes from being stuck indoors through imaginative play with boxes. Storytimes are designed for 2–4-year-olds, accompanied by their caregiver, but enjoyable for the whole family.
A Peek into Publishing (Online – Watch On Demand)
What does it take to get a book or story published? Take a peek into the world of publishing with Taylor Navis, a Content Management Coordinator at HarperCollins Publishers and a Cofounder and Coeditor of Burnt Pine Magazine. This online talk will be uploaded to our Facebook Page and YouTube Channel on Thursday, January 20 and can be watched at any time!
January Take & Makes
Take & Make kits are available monthly, while supplies last. January features two projects.
- A kit for kids with instructions and supplies to make a 3-D snowflake becomes available January 8.
- A kit for teens and adults with instructions and supplies to make a macrame wall hanging becomes available January 17.
Ongoing Programs
Romper Room
Physical activity and human connections are important for healthy, happy human beings, and the Romper Room facilitates both! Focusing on active play the room features a trike & trailer, foot-to-floor vehicles, a balance bike, tunnels, tumbling mats, balance beams, and more. The Romper Room is most engaging for ages 2-6 years, with masks required for ages 5 and up. The RR is thoroughly sanitized after every use. Schedule play dates by calling the library.
Monday Matinees
Every Monday at 2:00 p.m. enjoy a newly released or classic film on the big screen. For movie title and rating call the library or check the website.
Birth, Babies & Beyond
Join Dr. Autumn Pawlowski, PT, DPT of Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine for a “Babies, Birth, and Beyond” support group. Classes are held the second Thursday of each month, through March, from 4 to 5 p.m. with an upcoming class on January 13. Topics covered throughout this series include nutrition, lifting mechanics, women’s health physical therapy, and more! All in the community are welcome.
