The Packers are back on the practice field today as they get ready for their final regular season game Sunday at Detroit against the Lions. Coach Matt LaFleur said on Monday that Green Bay will be playing its starters, at least for a portion of the game. The Packers (13-3) have clinched the number one seed in the NFC while the Lions enter the game at 2-13-1, but have been playing better as of late.
As for the status of left tackle David Bakhtiari, who has not played since December of 2020 after tearing an ACL, LaFleur was asked if he needs to play any snaps against Detroit to get him game ready for the playoffs. LaFleur said he’ll practice and hopefully be ready to be activated against the Lions and play some.
The Packers’ all-time leading receiver, Donald Driver, has been selected for induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame as one of seven members of the Class of 2022.
A seventh-round draft pick out of Alcorn State in 1999, Driver holds Green Bay’s franchise records for career receptions (743) and receiving yards (10,137). The three-time Pro Bowler played 14 seasons (1999-2012) for the Packers, catching at least 50 passes nine times and eclipsing 1,000 yards seven times, both additional franchise marks.
The Black College Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on June 18 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
The seven members of the Class of ’22 will be introduced at the inaugural HBCU Legacy Bowl on Feb. 19 in New Orleans. The group also includes former Vikings receiver Sammy White (Grambling State University), former Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Newton (Florida A&M University) and former Patriots tight end Ben Coates (Livingstone College).
Driver played three seasons at Alcorn State (1996-98), catching 88 passes for 1,933 yards and 17 touchdowns, before then Packers GM Ron Wolf selected him 213th overall in ’99, using a seventh-round pick acquired via trade. Driver was also a track and field star who qualified for the Olympic trials in the high jump.
Baker Mayfield’s season is over. Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters on Tuesday that the quarterback will not play in Week 18 versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
Mayfield will instead undergo surgery on his injured left shoulder as soon as possible. Stefanski added he does not have a timetable on the QB’s recovery.
After Monday night’s loss in Pittsburgh, Mayfield admitted that he would undergo surgery on the torn left labrum that has bothered him for the bulk of the season. The QB suffered the injury in Week 2 and reinjured it in Week 6. Case Keesum will start for Cleveland against Cincinnati.

Justin Lewis had a career-high 23 points plus 11 rebounds as Marquette broke out of its slump Tuesday night with an 88-56 blowout of No. 16 Providence that snapped the Friars’ eight-game winning streak. Marquette (9-6, 1-3 Big East) emphatically ended its four-game skid by scoring 20 straight points late in the first half. The Golden Eagles’ lead never dropped below 20 throughout the second half. That represented a major reversal of fortune for Marquette. The Golden eagles had faced double-digit deficits in the second half of each of their first three Big East games.
