Event Details: | Set your calendars for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, when R. Steve Ackerman from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be live via Zoom to talk about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the freighter that sank in Lake Superior during a storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29 men. It is also the title of a 1976 hit song written, composed and performed by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. | Joining via Zoom means you can participate from the comfort of your own home and don't have to worry about weather, bad roads, or night driving. Dr. Steve Ackerman joined the UW-Madison faculty in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences in 1992. He served as Director of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) from 1999-2019. He is currently the Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education at UW-Madison. He is one of the ‘weather guys’, who appear monthly on Wisconsin Public Radio to discuss the weather and climate. They also write a weekly blog (http://wxguys.ssec.wisc.edu/) and a column for the Wisconsin State Journal which answer people’s weather questions.
