Weyauwega Fremont School Threat
The Weyauwega School District was closed Wednesday, but it had nothing to do with snowy weather. Police officers discovered an image of a student with a handgun and students found a threatening note. According to a statement issued by the district a suspect was in custody and charges were pending. Tuesday students found a note containing threatening images in a high school classroom. District Administrator Phillip Tubbs says district staff worked with police. Initially the district was looking at having classes Wednesday with an increased police presence, but opted to close school for the day given the images of the student with a handgun. Classes will resume today but with an increased police presence.

Keep The Wreath Green
An effort is underway in the City of Ripon to keep the Holiday Wreath Green. The wreath hung in front of city hall features green lights that signify a Fire-Safe season. If a fire occurs due to the holiday, a green light will be replaced with a red light. City officials and the Ripon Area Fire District are asking residents to keep the wreath green by practicing some simple safety tips. Those include keeping real Christmas trees watered, don’t leave something cooking unattended, do not overload extension cords, always turn off your Christmas lights when leaving home, and never place something flammable near a lit candle. Omicron Variant
Health experts are still trying to determine how much of a threat the Omicron variant poses. It’s been about two weeks since we first heard of it, but already there has been speculation about its severity and how it may chip away at the efficacy of the Pfizer vaccine. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says Dr. Anthony Fauci says it spreads faster and may be less severe than the Delta Variant, but the White House Medical Adviser is quick to add that the data is still coming in about the new variant. Meanwhile Pfizer officials say they could develop a new vaccine for the Omicron variant by next spring if the need still exists. The new variant has spread to more than 20 states.

Fifty Plus Years Of Sacrifice
State Representative Alex Dallman says one of the best moments in the State Assembly this year occurred in October when they recognized the First Responder of the Year for each of the Assembly Districts. For Dallman’s District the 41st, that was Glen Bubolz who selflessly served the Montello Fire Department for 50 years with 25 of those years as the Fire Chief. Dallman says because of the need for volunteers Bubolz continues to serve Montello as a firefighter. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says it was an emotional moment for the entire Bubolz family who were invited to Madison to watch as Glen was recognized. He says the whole family had to make sacrifices by giving up the time they would like to spend with Glen while he was fulfilling his firefighting duties.
