One day after reports said quarterback Aaron Rodgers had opted against having surgery on his fractured pinky toe, Rodgers told the Pat McAfee Show that surgery is still an option if the toe does not heal enough on its’ own during this bye week.
Rodgers said he could have surgery on a Monday or Tuesday and still play on Sunday. “The surgery would immobilize the toe, that would be an issue the entire season that we would be dealing with. Now, it would avoid and further displacement but it would immobilize the toe,” Rodgers told McAfee. “So we’re hoping with a couple of weeks here, we can get enough healing that maybe we can avoid doing that. Now, we will reassess later this week and early next week; but the ultimate goal is to not have to do surgery, this thing heals up a little bit better and you kind of make it through a few more weeks .”
Rodgers has played three games with the fractured toe. The Packers next play on December 12th when the host the Bears on Sunday Night Football.
The Green Bay Packers game against the Baltimore Ravens has been flexed. The NFL has moved the Sunday, Dec. 19th matchup at M&T Bank Stadium from noon to 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX. It’ll mark the first time the Packers have played a regular-season game at M&T Bank Stadium since 2013. The Packers (9-3) currently have a 3 1/2-game lead in the NFC North, while the Ravens (8-3) hold a one-game lead in the AFC North.
The Bucks host the Charlotte Hornets tonight. The Bucks, 13-8, have won seven straight games, while the Hornets at 13-10, have lost two straight.
All 11 starters on the Wisconsin Badgers’ defense have been named All-Big Ten. The list was led by Leo Chenal, who was the conference’s linebacker of the year. He was joined on the first team by fellow linebacker Jack Sanborn.
Nose tackle Keeanu Benton was named to the second team. End Matt Henningsen and cornerback Caesar Williams were named to the third team. Honorable mention honorees were linebackers Noah Burks and Nick Herbig, cornerback Faion Hicks, end Isaiah Mullens and safeties Scott Nelson and Collin Wilder.
Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson was named defensive player of the year and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker was named coach of the year. Offensive honors are set to be announced on Wednesday.
The Milwaukee Bucks are getting some help in their frontcourt with the addition of veteran center DeMarcus Cousins. The team confirmed the signing on Tuesday. Cousins, 31, has played 10 seasons in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. Cousins, a four-time All-Star, has averaged 20.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game in his career. The Bucks have been looking for depth at the position since a back injury has limited Brook Lopez to one game this season.
The Milwaukee Bucks have made a roster swap of players who can split time between Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Herd. The Bucks signed guard Javonte Smart to a two-way contract. Smart played in five games with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA G League, averaging 22 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists. The 22-year-old from LSU played in six NBA Summer League games with the Miami Heat and appeared in five of Miami’s preseason games. In a related move, the Bucks waived two-way guard Justin Robinson.
Two weeks after losing Manny Piña to free agency, the Milwaukee Brewers announced the signings of a pair of catchers. The team signed Pedro Severino and Brett Sullivan to one-year contracts. Severino has played in parts of seven major league seasons with the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. The 28-year-old is a career .235 hitter with 33 home runs and 133 RBI. Sullivan, 27, has spent six seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays’ minor league system. He has a .271 career average, with 58 home runs and 337 RBI.
