Milwaukee Man Charged Sixth Victim From Waukesha Holiday Parade Tragedy Dies
The 39-year-old Milwaukee man suspected of driving his SUV into parade goers and participants at the Waukesha Holiday Parade Sunday has been charged with 5 counts of first degree intentional homicide, each carrying a life in prison sentence if he’s convicted. But prosecutors also announced Tuesday a sixth person, an 8 year old child died which could lead to another charge for Darrell Brooks. LifePoint Church in a social media post said the sixth victim was Jackson Sparks and his 12 year old brother Tucker also suffered injuries in the incident. According to the criminal complaint Brooks is accused of injuring 62 people at the parade. A $5 million bond was set and Brooks will be back in court on January 14th. Status Of Children Struck In Waukesha Holiday Parade
Thirteen children injured during the Waukesha Holiday Parade Sunday are still hospitalized at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital. Darrell Brooks of Milwaukee plowed through parade goers and participants. He’s been charged with five counts of first degree intentional homicide and is being held on a $5 million cash bond. A hospital spokesperson said one patient they were caring for died. Although hospital officials didn’t identify that child LifePoint Church posting to social media did saying it was 8 year old Jackson Sparks. His 12 year old brother Tucker is still recovering. Of the 13 children still hospitalized six remain in critical condition, three are in fair condition, and four are in good condition.
Senator Johnson On Waukesha Holiday Parade Tragedy
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson was among the 1,000 people or more who attended an interfaith prayer vigil in Waukesha Monday night for victims of the Holiday Parade tragedy. The federal lawmaker from Oshkosh says he was not surprised to see the overwhelming response to help out victims at the scene and later at the hospitals they were taken to. “As is so often the case in the midst of these horrific tragedies where you see the absolute worst of human nature, you also see the best. It doesn’t come as a surprise to any of us does it; I mean we know who Wisconsinites are we know they are going to rally so. Just keep everybody in your prayers.” Johnson urged people to pray for both the healing of bodies and souls. SSM Health Giving COVID Vaccinations For 5 to 11 Year Olds
SSM Health is now providing COVID-19 vaccinations to children from 5 to 11 years of age. Mohammad Kharbat is the Vice-President of Pharmacy Services for SSM Health of Wisconsin. He says children can get vaccinated through one of their physicians and in some cities they have arranged to have vaccination clinics in schools. He says they haven’t scheduled any school clinics in Ripon, Fond du Lac or Waupun yet. Kharbat encourages the vaccination of children against the coronavirus. He says they are seeing more kids ending up in hospitals with COVID-19 because of the Delta variant. He says SSM Health offers several ways of scheduling for a COVID vaccine shot or booster through their primary physician, by going to the SSM Health website or through their MyChart program.
Ripon Rotary Club Citrus Sale
There’s a little over a week left if you want to order fruit from the Ripon Rotary Club through their annual citrus sale. Bob Amsden coordinates the sale for the club. An order form is available in today’s Ripon Express or you can order online through the Ripon Rotary.com website. The deadline for ordering is Thursday, December 2nd at 5 pm. Pick up for the fruit is Thursday, December 16th from 10 am to 4 pm at Homan Ford Chrysler in Ripon. Amsden says even with some delivery issues in some parts of the country they’ve been assured orders will be available at Homan when they are supposed to be. Ripon College Presidential Search Committee
The Ripon College Board of Trustees has approved the formation of the Presidential Search Committee in the College’s search for its 14th president, who will succeed President Zach Messitte. Messitte is leaving the College at the end of this semester following nine years of leadership. Members of the search committee will work closely with executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associations, which was selected to manage the search process based on their specialized expertise. Members of the committee were selected from among nominated faculty, staff, students, administration and the greater Ripon community. Trustee Mark Franzen will chair the committee.
