FDL County Jane Doe Identified

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department’s investigation into the death of a “Jane Doe” took a big step forward Tuesday with her identification. On the 13th anniversary of the discovery of the remains of “Jane Doe” Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt announced she has been identified as Amy Marie Yeary of Rockford, Illinois who was 18 at the time of her death. She was identified through comparison of DNA from her mother, her sister, and a comparison of dental x-rays. Waldschmidt says Amy called her mother from Beloit in the summer of 2008 asking for a ride home, but her mother who lived in northern Illinois at the time couldn’t provide it. Her family never heard from her after that. Detectives learned Amy Yeary had been a victim of sex trafficking and was often times transient having lived in Chicago, Beloit and the Milwaukee areas in the weeks prior to her death. Investigators are now trying to find out why she traveled to southeastern Fond du Lac County in the summer of 2008. They also are trying to determine how and why she lost her life.
