Sports for November 11th

The Packers returned to the practice field Wednesday getting ready for the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at Lambeau Field.  Rumors are circulating that Green Bay is interested in bringing in wide receiver Odeell Beckham Jr. for the veterans minimum salary to finish out the season.  Wide receiver Davante Adams isn’t sure it’s to happen.  He was asked though if it does, how would it help him having the veteran receiver on the line of scrimmage.  Adams said it would take some of the coverage pressure on him.

Meanwhile, A day after clearing waivers following his release from the Browns, free-agent receiver Odell Beckham intends to take some time before deciding on his next team. This according to  NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Kim Jones Wednesday. Jones added that OBJ’s high-profile decision should be “a few days away.”  After re-iterating that the decision “could take a while,” Rapoport noted during an appearance on NFL Now that the clubs that either “have offers out to Odell Beckham or significant interest” include the Chiefs, Packers, Seahawks, Patriots and Saints.

David Bakhtiari was activated this week but his status for starting at left tackle is up in the air.  Elgton Jenkins who’s moved over from left guard to tackle was asked what the plan is and said he didn’t know yet.

Another uncertainty for both teams Sunday is the status of their starting quarterbacks.  The Seahawks Russell Wilson has missed four games because of a broken bone in his hand but said Sunday he feels he can play.  Head coach Pete Carroll said no decision has been made yet.  As for the Packers Aaron Rodgers, he’s hoping to be cleared Saturday after returning from a bout with COVID and missing Sunday’s game at Kansas City, which Green Bay lost, in Jordan Love’s first start at quarterback.  Rodgers has been in the loop as far as the game plan goes, but has not been able to practice on the field, as Love has taken all the snaps.  Rodgers said if cleared, he feels he can go.

The Packers are 7-2 while the Seahawks are 3-5.

In Thursday Night Football the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) are on the road at Miami playing the Dolphins (2-7)

Pat Connaughton kept another lost lead from becoming another lost game against the New York Knicks. Connaughton scored a season-high 23 points, making three late 3-pointers to swing a wild second half back in Milwaukee’s favor. The Bucks blew a 24-point lead before beating the Knicks 112-100 on Wednesday night. Less than a week after the Knicks came from 21 down to win 113-98 at Milwaukee, the Bucks opened a 70-46 cushion midway through the third quarter. But the Knicks’ reserves wiped that away and the game was tied with 5 minutes to play.

Connaughton’s 3-pointers reopened a 10-point lead with 2:05 remaining and Grayson Allen added another pair to put it away. Milwaukee couldn’t hold a 40-19 lead Friday, getting outrebounded 59-37 by the Knicks. This time, the Bucks held a 50-38 advantage on the boards — though their 26 3-pointers is ultimately what won the game.  Connaughton finished with a career-high seven 3-pointers.

Jrue Holiday scored 18 points and Antetokounmpo had 15 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists for the Bucks, who had just enough to win for the second straight night. They won at Philadelphia on Tuesday.  Derrick Rose had 22 points and seven assists for the Knicks, while Immanuel Quickley scored 18 points. New York’s starters were ineffective all night and coach Tom Thibodeau stuck with his reserves for the final 1 1/2 quarters.  The Bucks visit Boson on Friday.

Chicago’s Liam Hendriks earned his second straight Mariano Rivera Award as the American League Reliever of the Year and Milwaukee’s Josh Hader won his third Trevor Hoffman Award as the National League Reliever of the Year. Hendriks had an 8-3 record and 38 saves in 44 chances with a 2.54 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 71 innings during his first season with the White Sox.  Hader was 4-2 with a career-best 1.23 ERA and 34 saves in 35 chances. He also won in 2018 and ’19.

The Green Bay Packers announced their nomination for the 11th annual NFL Salute to Service Award.  According to the release, the award recognizes NFL players, coaches, staff, and alumni who show an apparent commitment to honoring and supporting military and veteran communities.  The team has chosen Chris Gizzi, the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for the Packers.

Appleton East girls basketball stars Emily La Chapell and Lily Hansford have signed college scholarship offers from Marquette and Oregon State, respectively. La Chapell averaged more than 19 points per game last season, and Hansford has averaged 13 points per game the last 2 seasons.
