Berlin High School Walkout

Police in Berlin say a student wasn’t assaulted at the Berlin High School, but they are interested in finding out more about a video recording of a student in a bathroom. A transgender student claims he was sexually assaulted in the school bathroom several times in the past couple of weeks. School administrators notified police when the student came forward. In a statement the Berlin Police Department says multiple interviews were conducted and associated evidence was examined, but their investigation discovered no physical assault or attack against the alleged victim took place. A number of students walked out of a classroom in protest over the allegations Thursday. Anyone with information about a recording in the boys’ bathroom is asked to call Berlin Police at 920-361-2121.

COVID Vaccine Becoming Available To Younger Children

Beginning this week children from 5 to 11 years of age can receive the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says that will help us build further toward herd immunity from the coronavirus. He says he understands the reluctance of some parents to have their children vaccinated against the virus because they believe they are doing what is best for their children and families. A recent survey showed about equal thirds that were excited about the vaccine, were still taking a wait and see approach, or aren’t going to let their children get vaccinated. A number of school districts will be teaming up with health departments to offer the vaccine to children and their families.

Young Ready For Interim President Of Ripon College Role

When Andrea Young becomes interim President of Ripon College in January she will become the first woman to serve as the president for the 170 year old school. Currently she serves as Vice-President of Finance. The fact that she is the first woman to serve in that capacity for the college isn’t lost on her. She joke’s that it is about time, but says really she’s excited and nervous about the opportunity to succeed Zach Messitte when he retires at the end of this semester. Messitte says Young seemed like an obvious choice to serve in the interim because in her 10 years with Ripon College she has held just about every position that would be considered preparation for the presidency. The school is conducting a national search for its 14th president.
