ThedaCare Will Vaccinate 5 to 11 Year Old Children With COVID Vaccine
ThedaCare will be joining other health care providers in providing COVID-19 vaccinations to children ages 5 to 11 starting Tuesday. Appointments can be made online through ThedaCare/MyChart. If you or your children are not currently ThedaCare patients or do not have MyThedaCare, you can set up a free account at MyThedaCare.org. ThedaCare Chief Clinical Officer Mark Cockley says, “Children have been among those most impacted by the pandemic-from virtual learning and masking, to being isolated and away from friends-they have found ways to adapt.” According to the CDC, since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been more than 1.9 million COVID cases, more than 8,300 hospitalizations and 94 deaths among children ages 5 to 11. Though most children do not get nearly as sick from COVID as adults, children are affected by the virus.
OASD Vaccination Clinics
The Oshkosh Area School District is partnering with the Winnebago County Health Department to host on-site COVID-19 Vaccine Walk-in Clinics for families with children ages 5-11. Clinics will take place next Monday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at Oaklawn Elementary School and Tuesday, November 16th from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at Shapiro STEM Academy. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be available. Follow-up clinics to distribute the second Pfizer dose will take place November 29th at Oaklawn and December 7th at Shapiro. The onsite vaccine clinics are open to any District students ages 5 to 11 as well as their immediate family members. Children under 18 must have a parent/guardian present and parent/guardian-signed consent form. No appointment, identification, or insurance is required.
Retired Waupun Deputy Police Chief Hendricks Fondly Remembered
The Waupun Police Department recently reported the passing of Retired Waupun Deputy Police Chief Melinda “Mindy” Hendricks. She was employed with the city of Waupun Police Department from 1979 until her retirement in 2012. Hendricks was the first female officer hired at the Waupun Police Department and the first female police officer in both Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties. She held positions of Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Deputy Chief. Waupun Police say she will be remembered for her smile and laughter, and how she made others around her smile and laugh. They also say she changed many lives with her service to the community. The Retired Deputy Chief died last Saturday.
FDL County Board Approves Redistricting Plan
The Fond du Lac County Board this week unanimously approved the final redistricting plan for the county and its municipalities. County Board Chairperson Marty Farrell said there had only been one minor change to it since supervisors approved the tentative plan and sent it off to municipalities so they could change their ward boundaries if they needed to. That change was in the city and town of Waupun in the southwestern portion of the city to accommodate some ward consolidation. No one spoke during public hearings earlier in the meeting on that plan or on the proposed 2022 County Budget. Farrell thanked the Reapportionment Committee members for their hard work on the plan.
Drug Take Back Success
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says 57,377 pounds of unwanted medications were collected across the state during the Drug Take Back Day on October 23rd. It was the largest drug take back collection in the country. Statewide over 260 law enforcement agencies participated in Drug Take Back Day and disposed drugs were collected from drug disposal boxes at law enforcement agencies throughout the state. There are 497 permanent drug disposal boxes accessible year-round in Wisconsin at law enforcement agencies, hospitals, pharmacies, and health clinics. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal.
Sheboygan County Highway 23 Improvements Project
The state’s Department of Transportation tells us a design project website is now available to view proposed improvements to State Highway 23 in Sheboygan County. The website details the project on State Highway 23 between County Highway P and Taylor Drive in the towns of Plymouth and Sheboygan Falls, village of Kohler and city of Sheboygan. Construction is tentatively expected in 2028. The public is invited to review the proposed improvements scope, schedule and traffic impacts on the website and provide comment.

Natural Beauty Council Awards
During a special order of business Tuesday night the Fond du Lac County Natural Beauty Council presented the 2021 Beautification Awards. The awards are done through a nomination process for outstanding landscaping, gardens, and preservation of natural beauty on properties throughout the county. Eleven awards were given out during the presentation. Among the properties winning awards in Fond du Lac were those belonging to Doug Callies, Dorothy Bliskey, Teresa Krueger, Mike and Katie Ramirez, Mike and Shelly Weber, Brian and Gretchen Jones, Gary Schneider, and Autumn Dubey. Lori Grahl of Campbellsport picked up an award. Also recognized were the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds and Marian University.
