Hate Crime Suspect Ordered To Take Medication
30 October 2021 News
The 28-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of intentionally hitting and killing a motorcyclist with his father’s pickup truck in July of 2020 has been ordered to take medication for treatment. Fond du Lac County Judge Andrew Christianson issued the order Thursday. Two psychiatric exams had found Daniel Navarro was not competent to assist in his own defense. He was committed to the Mendota Mental Health facility for inpatient treatment this past January. Navarro is charged in the hate crime homicide of 55-year-old Phillip Thiessen of Fond du Lac who died at the scene of the crash on Winnebago Drive. According to the criminal complaint Navarro felt he was a victim of racism and was targeted because he was Mexican. Navarro in turn said he picked hitting a motorcycle because he believed the person driving the motorcycle was white and in Wisconsin white people drive motorcycles and the Harley climate is made up of white racists. A similar order was issued in July ordering him to take medication in an attempt to make him competent to stand trial.
