More Details Released About Ripon Porch Fire

More details have become available about a porch fire in Ripon Monday afternoon. Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says they got a call at 4:06 pm. Their Rapid Response Truck was the first on the scene and started putting water on the fire getting some assistance from a police officer with a fire extinguisher before their fire engine arrived. It took about 20 minutes to put out the fire, but firefighters were on the scene at 115 Blackburn Street for 45 minutes doing overhaul. Saul says the owner was doing some maintenance with a welder on the second floor porch when sparks from the welder started the porch on fire of the multi-family residence. In addition to the Ripon Area Fire District fire departments from Brandon-Fairwater, Fond du Lac, and Markesan responded to the fire and Ripon Guardian Ambulance. Markesan firefighters manned the fire station while others were at the scene.

Envision More Than A Chamber Of Commerce

A question came up during Ripon Common Council budget discussions about what services Envision Greater Fond du Lac provides for the money the city is paying it. Envision President and CEO Sadie Parafiniuk says the city already has the Chamber and Main Street programs to promote business so Envision provides other services like economic development helping attract interest in the city’s industrial and business park. They’ve also been working in conjunction with Fond du Lac County on a survey and mapping for broadband expansion. Parafiniuk says they also do outreach to businesses and others to offer their business intelligence services working recently with Walsworth and Ripon College.

Workforce Housing Legislation

State Representative Alex Dallman is backing a package of bills that will work to address the workforce shortage in Wisconsin. He is the lead author of a bill which would create a certified “shovel ready” workforce housing development site program through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The state lawmaker from Green Lake says in talking with citizens, contractors and business owners throughout the 41st State Assembly District, he was made aware of the extreme shortage of workforce housing. He says the bills in the package will help to alleviate the shortage and will create a better environment for local businesses, schools and local economies to succeed.
