FDL SWAT Call

Fond du Lac Police used their SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams to try and deescalate a situation Sunday night, but ended up using an explosive breach and pepper spray munitions to enter an apartment a 33-year-old Fond du Lac area man had barricaded himself into. It started as a domestic violence call to an address on West Scott Street. The suspect had armed himself with a knife threatening to harm the victim. He left before police arrived and was located in an apartment on Donahue Court. Efforts to get him to cooperate and surrender were unsuccessful and he made statements about harming himself. After the apartment was breached the man was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.

FDL County DA Comments On Jury Trial

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says his heart goes out to the family and friends of Austin Vande Zande a Waupun man who died of a fentanyl overdose in March of 2020. Toney spent last week prosecuting a 29-year-old Milwaukee man, Sonny Lawrence, on a first degree reckless homicide charge stemming from Vande Zande’s death. Last Friday a jury found Lawrence guilty of the charge, which could get him up to 25 years in prison, 15 years of extended supervision and up to a $100,000 fine. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and a sentencing hearing will be scheduled. Toney says families have been devastated by the deadly effects of fentanyl and 2020 was a tragic year in the county for overdose deaths.

Free COVID Testing Today In Rosendale

Kim Mueller

The Fond du Lac County Health Department and Accelerated Clinical Laboratories’ free COVID-19 testing opportunity begins today at the Village of Rosendale Community Center from 12 to 5 pm. All county residents ages 2 and older can then be tested. Residents do not need to be experiencing symptoms to be tested.  County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says they will be testing at the Rosendale Community Center every Tuesday and every Thursday from noon to 5 pm at the County Fairgrounds in Fond du Lac for the foreseeable future though they will evaluate that from time-to-time to see if more clinics or fewer are needed. She says the main thing is the testing is free so no one has to worry about insurance covering the cost.

COVID Vaccine For Adults

Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says it was encouraging last week to hear that at least two-thirds of adults 18 and older in the state had received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.  According to Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services 67 percent of adults had gotten at least one “shot in the arm” and 63.4 percent had completed their series of vaccine.  He says President Biden and businesses need to bare down on having people get vaccinated and tested for COVID-19.  Meanwhile a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee last Friday voted against recommending the Pfizer booster shot for the general public but did endorse a recommended booster for those over 65 years of age and at higher health risks.

The work is from 6 am to 4 pm each day through Thursday. Meanwhile spot painting of girders of bridges over I-39 is also taking place during the same hours in Marathon and Portage counties as well.

She says a food court tent with food and beverages will allow them to accommodate the crowd. The full schedule of Friday through Sunday’s Harvest Festival activities can be found at the Chamber’s website.
