The Packers are looking to rebound after getting pounded by the New Orleans Saints 35-3 on Sunday in Jacksonville. The loss snapped a franchise-record streak of six straight season-opening victories.
“Unfortunately, sometimes in this league, you get humbled,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Monday. “Certainly we got humbled.”
LaFleur said his team needs to bounce back and forget about the loss. He was asked following Sunday’s game if not playing his starters in the preseason was a factor in losing. LaFleur said he felt good going into the game having a majority of his players healthy but based on their performance, said it’s fair to guestion what the Packers decided.
An offense that produced a league-high 31.8 points per game last season couldn’t find the end zone. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the reigning MVP, was 15 of 28 for 133 yards with two interceptions.
“I felt like our energy was a little bit low,” said Rodgers. He compared Sunday’s loss to a 26-11 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers from 2019.
Green Bay hosts the Detroit Lions Monday night in their home opener. The Packers never have lost consecutive games under LaFleur, who is in his third season.
In Monday Night Football the Las Vegas Raiders won their first game in brand-new Allegiant Field against the Baltimore Ravens, 33-27 in overtime.
