Ripon Storm Costs
The Ripon Common Council Tuesday night approved Mayor Grant’s Emergency Disaster Declaration for the storm that hit the city on July 28th and 29th. That could open the way to eligibility for money from the Wisconsin Disaster Fund for up to 70 percent of costs associated with cleanup from the storm including overtime costs for police, EMS, department of public works and utilities. In addition the Council approved applying for an Urban Forestry Grant from the DNR, which could make the city eligible for up to $50,000 to help with the costs of trees damaged by the storm that still need to be removed. City Administrator Adam Sonntag says 110 trees still need to be removed. He also said it will cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars for the cleanup. The cost of disposing the brush from the storm will also be expensive at $700 an hour to grind it and a day’s worth of work.
Outstanding Warrant Scam
The outstanding warrant scam has reached Ripon and Fond du Lac County. Ripon Police say they’ve been receiving complaints from residents who say they’ve gotten call from someone supposedly from local law enforcement or county sheriff’s department. The caller advises the resident an outstanding warrant has been issued for them because they owe money or a surcharge. The residents are requested to get a VISA credit card, money card or share personal information. It is not common practice for local or county law enforcement to ask people to get money cards. If you are not sure it is a scam call your local police department. In Ripon that phone number is 920-748-2888.
