House Fire Displaces Oshkosh Family

18 July 2021 News

Oshkosh Police and firefighters rescued a woman, her two children, and two dogs and a cat from a house fire at 1637 Western Street Saturday morning.  The woman called 9-1-1 shortly after 7:30 to report they were trapped in an upstairs bedroom by the smoke. When police arrived at the home an officer found a ladder in the garage and they were able to use that to get onto a roof next to  an upstairs window. The officers and firefighters were able to get the family and their pets to safety. Two of the officers were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation and were released for work. There was extensive damage to the home. The family was displaced and is being helped by the American Red Cross. There were no working smoke detectors. The mother was awakened by the smell of smoke. The cause is being determined.
