Medication Ordered For Murder Suspect

A 28-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of intentionally hitting and killing a motorcyclist with his father’s pickup truck last July has been ordered to take medication in an attempt to make him competent to stand trial. Judge Timothy Van Akkeren issued the order Monday. Two psychiatric exams had found Daniel Navarro was not competent to assist in his own defense. He was committed to the Mendota Mental Health facility for inpatient treatment this past January. Navarro is charged in the death of 55-year-old Phillip Thiessen of Fond du Lac who died at the scene of the crash on Winnebago Drive. According to the criminal complaint Navarro felt he was a victim of racism and was targeted because he was Mexican. Navarro in turn said he picked hitting a motorcycle because he believed the person driving the motorcycle was white and in Wisconsin white people drive motorcycles and the Harley climate is made up of white racists.

A young survivor of abuse reminded Dodge County District Attorney Kurt Klomberg and his office Tuesday that there is still hope, beauty, and love in the world. Sheriff’s Detective Vickie Brugger brought the teen over along with the donation of bags each containing toys, writing material, a blanket and an attached tag that said “you are strong, you are brave, you are a survivor.” The teen’s mother went on to explain that this child had started a GoFundMe page to raise the money to purchase the items for the care packages. Then the teen constructed each package so that a child in a future investigation could have the items, in the hopes that the items would make them feel more comfortable during the investigation.
