OASD School To Work Program

3 July 2021 News

Oshkosh, WI – Oshkosh Area School District students are earning their high school diploma while earning money working for a local fortune 500 company. The District’s School to Work program with Oshkosh Corporation allows high school juniors – from Oshkosh North and Oshkosh West – to embark on a paid two-year experience in which they develop technical and employability skills. Students entering their junior year can still apply to be in the School 2 Work program for the 2021-22 school year.

Eligible students must be entering their junior year of high school in Fall 2021. The enrollment process includes an online application, interview with transcript review, and an orientation for both the student and parent/guardian. Additional details are available online at www.oshkosh.k12.wi.us/school-to-work. For more information and to begin the enrollment process, contact Vicki Porior at vicki.porior@oshkosh.k12.wi.us. Students who are not enrolled in the OASD can take advantage of this unique learning experience by enrolling in the District. Learn more at www.oshkosh.k12.wi.us/families/enrollment

“This is an incredible opportunity for students to learn in an environment that works best for them,” stated Vicki Porior, OASD Career and Technical Education Coordinator. “But it’s also so much more than that. This program is providing students with a real career opportunity and connecting them with a local employer that is not only investing in their future but is committed to bringing them into their workforce full time.”

Students enrolled in the program attend class with other School to Work students in the OASD’s School to Work classroom – located at Oshkosh West High School – for three hours each school day. The rest of their school day consists of on-the-job training at an Oshkosh Defense facility with the guidance of an Oshkosh Defense mentor. School to Work students are also able to participate in their high school’s sports, clubs and other afterschool activities, ensuring that their high school experience is everything they want it to be.

The OASD’s School to Work program works to ensure students are College, Career, and Community Ready. Graduates are equipped with high-demand employability skills – making them desirable candidates for immediate hire in the manufacturing industry and beyond. In 2021, the School 2 Work program graduated five high school seniors all of whom were offered full-time, competitive positions with Oshkosh Corporation, with one student choosing to continue their education at Fox Valley Technical College.
