Dallman Votes To End Federal Unemployment COVID Benefits
State Representative Alex Dallman of Green Lake voted in favor of legislation this week that will encourage unemployed individuals to return back to work as businesses and employees navigate a worker shortage. The bill ends Wisconsin’s participation in federal unemployment benefit programs which discourage people to return to work by paying them an extra $300 a week to sit on the sidelines. Two bills authored by State Senator Joan Ballweg of Markesan were unanimously passed by the Senate this week. The first bill created an agricultural export program which charges the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection in collaboration with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to increase the value of Wisconsin’s dairy, meat and crop exports. It also requires reports to the legislature on the progress of the program. The second bill updates the way municipalities collect room tax and was introduced in an effort to make it easier for the municipalities to know how much they are due and give them the needed tools to collect it.
Markesan June Dairy Days This Weekend
Markesan hosts its annual June Dairy Days this weekend. Terry Krombos is the President of the Markesan Chamber of Commerce. He says things get started with the midway opening at Hein Park at 4 pm. There’s a pig roast from 5 to 7 pm, live music with Tom Winkers at 5:30 pm, and later a street dance with Cherry Pie performing at 8:30 pm. It will all be capped off with fireworks at dusk. Krombos says most of the activity will be staged around the park and the city garage building. Saturday brings more fun including a country style breakfast, the parade at 7 pm and more live entertainment. A chicken BBQ dinner at Soldiers and Sailors Park Sunday at 11 am will wrap up the weekend’s festivities. Krombos says they couldn’t stage the event without a number of supporting organizations and groups.

An area dermatologist says Melanoma and Skin Cancer aren’t something that should be taken lightly. Signs include Asymmetry, irregular Borders, Colors, Diameter if it is 6 millimeters or more it should be checked out, and Evolution or how it changes. He cautions if you have a family history of skin cancer there might be reason for concern. “If you’ve had a direct family member who has had Melanoma skin cancer, brother, a parent or sibling you are more likely to get Melanoma skin cancer so you want to make sure you get checked out regularly.” He says sore that chronically bleed or bleed very easily should also be checked out. Dr. Steffes works with Dermatology and Cosmetics Physicians, which has offices in Fond du Lac and West Bend.
