Girl Hurt In FDL Traffic Accident Identified

Police in Fond du Lac have identified the 8-year-old girl who was seriously hurt when she was struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross one of the city’s busiest streets with her bicycle Monday night. Miaya Hartwig is in stable condition at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. She suffered a head and shoulder injury. Police say 50-year-old James Livieri of North Fond du Lac was heading west on East Johnson Street near Amory Street when Hartwig who was heading south on her bicycle on Amory Street rode into the path of west bound traffic and was struck by his truck. She was not wearing a helmet or any reflective clothing. Livieri immediately stopped and called 911. He remained at the scene waiting for officers and first responders to arrive. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
