Montello Woman Arrested For Second OWI Offense

A state trooper arrested a 26-year-old Montello woman for driving under the influence with a child under 16 in the vehicle during a traffic stop in Portage County Thursday morning. Rebecca Remhof was stopped for a speeding violation on Interstate 39 near State Highway 10 East. The trooper observed signs of impairment and Remhof was arrested after field sobriety tests for her second OWI offense with a minor in the vehicle. She was also charged with bail jumping and placed on a probation hold.

Transfer To FDL County Dispatch Complete

Ripon Fire, Police and Guardian Ambulance are now being dispatched by Fond du Lac County. The transition was complete this Tuesday. Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says the switch was flipped about 8:30 that morning. He says the average resident won’t notice a difference, but for the fire department it has improved their response time. “I will tell you from the fire department end of it that we noticed in our first couple of calls that our response time has been cut down and we are saving minutes, we are really saving minutes by doing this.” Saul says in the case of a fire a few minutes difference can mean lives or property loss. If you call the (920) 748-2888 phone number previously used for Ripon Dispatch it rings right through to county dispatch. Saul also says a phone is installed in the lobby of City Hall for after hour calls rings right through to county dispatch.

Vaccine Volunteer Efforts Recognized

The Fond du Lac County Health Department this week issued a press release to thank the volunteers that helped with their COVID-19 vaccination efforts. Throughout the past four months those volunteers participated weekly to help vaccinate the community. They assisted in a variety of positions such as vaccinating, traffic control, observation, and data entry. Officials say as a team they were able to administer 12,081 doses of vaccine. A number of individuals and organizations were singled out in the press release for their efforts.

State Attorney General Candidate Earns Another Endorsement

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney has picked up another endorsement in his run for the state Attorney General’s post. Waukesha County District Attorney Susan Opper has announced her support for the Republican candidate. Opper was appointed Waukesha County DA by Governor Scott Walker in 2015 after she had served in the DA’s office for 23 years. Former Attorney General Brad Schimel, who had been the DA in Waukesha, and former Waukesha County DA Paul Bucher, both urged Walker to promote her to DA. Toney is hoping to unseat incumbent State Attorney General Josh Kaul, a Democrat, in the 2022 November election.

Summer School Starts Soon In Ripon School District

Students in the Ripon Area School District will have the opportunity to attend summer school for face-to-face instruction this summer. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says the COVID-19 pandemic took that opportunity away last summer. She says students can take courses to keep their skills sharp on the basics or take enrichment classes. “Course lots of opportunities for our students both for building on those course skills in reading, writing, and math as well as lots of enrichment classes.” Whitrock says high school students can continue taking courses during the summer they get credit for with one of the more popular classes is driver’s education. Summer School starts in the district on Monday, June 14th.

Horicon Bank Ripon Summer Concert Series Returns With The Jimmys

The Horicon Bank Ripon Summer Concert Series officially kicks off tonight with The Jimmys performing on the Village Green in Ripon. Ripon Main Street Executive Director Craig Tebon says because the pandemic shut down the series last year it’s been nearly two years since the last summer concert. “With COVID we took last year off. We booked all the bands for this year most of them. We are ready and raring to go it’s been a long almost two years.” Tebon says The Jimmys are no strangers to Ripon and the band itself is eager to perform out in public after a long layoff. No carry-ins are allowed in the park. Ripon Main Street offsets its costs for the free concerts through sales from their beverage tent and through donations and sponsorships. The Jimmys concert is from 7 to 10 pm on the Village Green.

AquaHawk Comes To Oshkosh

The City of Oshkosh Water Distribution is now offering the AquaHawk service, which allows water customers to receive leak alerts and access water usage information online. By subscribing to the free service customers can view water consumption, receive timely leak alerts and control water expenses. Customers can use the system to avoid unexpected high bills and costly water damage from leaks. It’s a free service for city of Oshkosh water customers. Residents can watch for additional information in their water bills. Registration for the AquaHawk service is available online.
