Sports for June 1st

Luis Urías hit a shot that bounced over the wall and brought home Omar Narváez with the winning run in the 10th inning as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Detroit Tigers 3-2. The Brewers won their fifth straight and snapped the Tigers’ three-game winning streak. The Tigers were starting a six-game road trip after posting their first home sweep of the New York Yankees since 2000.  Willy Adames hit a two-run homer for the Brewers. Akil Baddoo had tying solo homer for the Tigers in the seventh.  Once again it was solid pitching for the Brewers as starter Corbin Burnes went six innings, giving  up one run on six hits while striking out seven and walking two.  Brad Boxberger pitched the tenth and picked up the win to improve his record to 2-1.  Jose Cisnero got one out in the tenth before giving up the game-winning hit and falls to 0-2.  Milwaukee and Detroit meet again tonight as left-hander Mathew Boyd (2-6) starts for the Tigers against Brewers lefty Eric Lauer (1-1).  First pitch is at 6:40 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.

Elsewhere in the NL Central on Monday, the Reds pounded the Phillies 11-1, the Padres downed the Cubs 7-2, the Royals beat the Pirates 7-3 and Dodgers over the Cardinals 9-4.  Milwaukee is a game behind the Cardinal in division and 1 ½ games in back of the Cubs.

The Milwaukee Bucks completed a four-game sweep of the Miami Heat on Saturday with a 120-103 victory in Miami.  Brook Lopez scored 25 points, Giannis Antetokounmpo had a triple-double and the Bucks became the first team to advance in this year’s playoffs. Bam Adebayo scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Miami, which got 18 points from Kendrick Nunn and a triple-double from Jimmy Butler. Milwaukee prepares for an Eastern Conference semifinals matchup against either Brooklyn or Boston. Brooklyn leads in that series 3-1 and  has a chance to wrap the series tonight at home.

There are two games in the Western Conference Semi-Finals tonight as Portland plays at Denver with the series tied at two and the Lakers play at Phoenix with that series also tied at two-games each.

The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders opened Northwood’s League play Monday with a 13-5 victory over the Green Bay Booyah at home.  The team’s play again tonight in Green Bay.  First pitch is at 6:35.

Helio Castroneves won the Indianapolis 500 Sunday for the fourth time in his illustrious career, outdueling Alex Palou down the stretch.  The 46-year old also won in 2001, 2002 and 2,009

In Nascar, Kyle Larson won the Coca Cola 600 Sunday.
