A 29-year-old Hartford man was arraigned in Dodge County court this week on a first degree reckless homicide charge stemming from a drug overdose death. Mitchell McDonald pled not guilty to the charge that resulted from the April 2019 death of a 28-year-old woman in Ashippun. Masking Requirement Continues For Health Care Facilities
With more people completely vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus it may come as a surprise that health care facilities are still requiring masking when you go in for an appointment. DeAnn Thurmer is the President of the Ripon Medical Center and Waupun Memorial Hospital. She says they are governed by the CDC, Medicare and Medicaid which is still requiring masking and other precautions like social distancing. “They are saying for health care we have to continue to do the masking the social distancing and some of the other PPE and handwashing type of things for any health care. So that is your clinics, that’s your hospitals.” In addition to hospitals and clinics, pharmacies also require the masking. Thurmer says all of their people are required to mask as well even though they are fully vaccinated. She notes when you visit one of their offices there is also a screening process.
Vax A Million Lottery Works For Ohio
Ohio’s idea to incentivize getting vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus by making five people a million dollars richer and giving out five full-ride college scholarships to students through a lottery is a winner. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says it took off like wildfire. “And it has taken off like wildfire people love it. Vaccination rates are up 35 percent or something and up 50 percent for kids who want this opportunity to go to a four-year school.” To be eligible for the Vax-a-Million lottery adults need to have had at least one dose of the vaccine and only kids 12 to 17-years-of age have the opportunity at the scholarship. More than 2.75 million adults were eligible for the first drawing Wednesday and over 104,000 kids. President Biden said the lottery is an appropriate use of federal funds because it in effect is marketing the vaccine.
RASD Will Offer Free Breakfast And Lunch Program Again This Summer
The Ripon Area School District will once again offer a free breakfast and lunch program for those 18 years of age or younger this summer. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says they received word they could offer that program again as they move into the next school year. “We did receive word they we would be able to continue with our free breakfast and lunch program as we did this year for all of our students as we move into the 2021-2022 school year. So that is really good news for families and for our students.” She says once again it will be a curbside distribution at the Ripon Middle School. One change they are contemplating is going to a more grocery-style way of distributing the food rather than the individual pre-packaging they did last summer.
