Customs Scam

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new scam that has hit the area. They say you should not respond if you get a call from someone saying they are with the U.S. Customs or Post Office and have intercepted a package addressed to you that contained drugs, cash, weapons or contraband. They will ask you to verify your address, which is a way of getting personal information from you. They recommend ignoring the call and letting family and friends know about the scam as well. Typically, government agencies only reach out to you via email. The scammer may also provide you with a badge number of make their pitch sound more legitimate.

Waupaca County Man Charged In Infant Son’s Death

A Waupaca County man has been charged for the death of his 2-year-old son who was killed in a skid steer accident on April 5th. Thirty-nine-year-old Caleb Schachtschneider of Ogdenburg is charged with second degree reckless homicide. He told a responding Sheriff’s deputy that he was using the skid steer to clear manure and had his 2-year-son in his lap. As he moved to lower the bucket the toddler fell forward and hit his head on a crossbar. The boy died later at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Schachtschneider later admitted he had the boy in front of him instead of behind a restraint bar. He also admitted the boy was at his feet and not in his lap. He will make his initial court appearance next Tuesday.

Pickup Truck Driver Hurt In Waupaca County Crash

A man driving a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer on US Highway 45 in Waupaca County was injured Monday evening when his truck went off the road and struck a tree. Sheriff’s officials say the truck and trailer were heading south on US Highway 45 near State Highway 76 when the truck went over the centerline, entered the east ditch and struck a tree. The man was the lone occupant of the pickup. He was extricated from it and flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. A 911 call reported the crash in Bear Creek Township at 5:15 pm.

Sex Offender Released

The Dodge and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Offices are warning residents about a 51-year-old sex offender who will be released from Oshkosh Correctional Institution on Wednesday and will be living in the area. John Nummerdor will be considered homeless. He has family ties to the Reeseville area. A Village of Reeseville ordinance prohibits him from living in the village. He has completed his sentence for first degree sexual assault of a child and will not be under community supervision. He will be on GPS monitoring and will be listed on the State’s Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life.

George Floyd Anniversary

To mark the one-year anniversary of the death of George Floyd the Ripon Area Racial Justice Alliance will hold a vigil at the Ripon Rotary Square at 5 pm today. Among the activities connected with the event will be brief remarks from community members and faith leaders. There will also be a procession to the Black Lives Matter mural on West Fond du Lac Street. Attendees will be invited to observe the 9 minutes and 29 seconds of silence in honor of George Floyd.

Honorary June Dairy Days Officer

After receiving many worthy nominations, the Markesan Police Department has named its Honorary June Dairy Day’s Officer. Wyatt Mildebrandt is a first grader at Markesan Elementary School. Police say he is full of life and energy and has a “Can Do” attitude that is out of this world. He also has a caring heart. As this year’s June Dairy Day’s Youth Officer Wyatt will be an honorary guest at the Farmer’s Breakfast on Saturday, June 12th. He will be riding in the front seat of the lead squad car of the parade. The Honorary June Dairy Day’s Officer must live in the Markesan School District.
