Sports for May  10th

Tyrone Taylor hit a two-out, tiebreaking single in the 10th inning, and seven Milwaukee Brewers pitchers combined on a six-hitter to beat the Miami Marlins 2-1.  Marlins reliever Anthony Bass retired the first two batters in the 10th, but after an intentional walk, Taylor’s hit brought home automatic runner Pablo Reyes from second.  Josh Hader pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 0.71. Drew Rasmussen pitched the 10th and earned his first career save by working around a two-out walk and stranding automatic runner Lewis Brinson at third.  The Brewers managed only seven hits against four Marlins pitchers.  Bass took the loss and falls to 1-3.

Stunning news came out of the world of horse racing on Sunday morning, as the 2021 Kentucky Derby wnner, Medina Spirit, reportedly tested positive for a banned substance.   The horse, trained by Bob Baffert, won the Derby May 1st at the famed Churchill Downs by a half-length over Mandaloun. However, according to reports, Medina Spirit tested positive for excessive levels of Betamethasone, a corticosteroid.  Already, the famous racetrack has taken swift action. As of Sunday morning, Baffert has been suspended from entering any horses at Churchill Downs after the positive test emerged.

“We will await the conclusion of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission’s investigation before taking further steps,” the statement from Churchill Downs said.
