Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of solo homers and Brad Miller slammed a three-run shot to back Aaron Nola, helping the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Tuesday night. Nola (3-1) struck out 10 and allowed one run and five hits in six gritty innings as the Phillies held on to earn consecutive wins for the first time since they started the season 4-0.

Phillies reliever Enyel De Los Santos, called up from the minors earlier in the day, came out of the bullpen to pitch the seventh but was denied entry by umpires because he didn’t appear on their lineup card.

The Brewers took advantage, scoring four runs off David Hale and JoJo Romero. Hale lasted three batters, exiting after Luis Urías’ RBI single. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run homer to center off Romero to cut the deficit to 6-5. Center fielder Odubel Herrera got his foot stuck in the padding halfway up the wall and needed help from right fielder Miller to get untangled. Sam Coonrod got five outs for his second save. He retired Bradley on a fly ball to left with runners on first and third to end it.  Brewers starter Eric Lauer (1-1) gave up six runs — two earned — and eight hits in six innings, striking out seven.

McCutchen, who entered the game batting .176, led off the bottom of the first with a drive into Philadelphia’s bullpen to tie it at 1. He connected to left-center to ignite a five-run third that put the Phillies ahead 6-1. After a fielding error by third baseman Travis Shaw on J.T. Realmuto’s grounder with two outs kept the inning going, Didi Gregorius had an RBI single before Miller launched one into the second deck just inside the right-field foul pole.  Daniel Vogelbach’s RBI single in the first gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.  Nola retired 12 in a row during one stretch before running into a bases-loaded jam in the sixth. He struck out Jacob Nottingham on his 114th and final pitch to end the threat.

RHP Freddy Peralta (3-0, 2.25 ERA) starts for Milwaukee and RHP Chase Anderson (1-3, 5.40) goes for the Phillies on Wednesday night. Anderson was 38-27 with a 3.83 ERA in four seasons with the Brewers from 2016-19. First pitch is at 6:05 and the game can be heard on AM 1100/98.3 FM, WISS.

Meanwhile, OF Christian Yelich went back on the injured list due to a lower back strain just one day after getting activated. The 2018 NL MVP was 2 for 4 on Monday night in his first game since April 11. The Brewers recalled outfielder Tyrone Taylor from Triple-A Nashville.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Tuesday, the Cubs took a doubleheader from the Dodgers, 7-1 and 4-3, the White Sox shutout the Reds 9-0, the Pirates edged the Padres 2-1 and the Mets at the Cardinals was postponed.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 36 points and the Milwaukee Bucks used a fourth-quarter rally to beat the Brooklyn Nets for the second time in three days, winning 124-118 on Tuesday night. Milwaukee blew a 10-point lead in the second half and trailed 103-97 with 10 minutes left, but it responded with an 18-1 run to clinch a fifth straight playoff appearance. Brooklyn cut the margin to four with 1:02 left, but Antetokounmpo sank a pair of free throws and Jrue Holiday made a steal in the final minute to seal the victory. Kyrie Irving scored 38 points for the Nets, and Kevin Durant had 32.

Khris Middleton and Holiday each had 23 points for Milwaukee. Antetokounmpo also grabbed 12 rebounds, and Donte DiVincenzo finished with 10 points and 15 boards. The Bucks’ fourth-quarter comeback followed their 117-114 Sunday afternoon victory over the Nets, also in Milwaukee. Antetokounmpo scored 49 points in that one as the Bucks withstood Durant’s 42-point performance. The Nets lost their third straight for the second time this season. Brooklyn also lost three in a row from Feb. 5-9, but followed that up by reeling off eight consecutive victories for its longest winning streak of the season. Brooklyn (43-23) fell 1 1/2 games behind Philadelphia (44-21) in the race for the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Milwaukee (41-24) is third in the East, three behind Philadelphia and 1 1/2 behind Brooklyn.

The Bucks host Washington on Wednesday (tonight) as they attempt to sweep the regular-season series. The Bucks won at Washington 125-119 on March 13 and 133-122 on March 15, with Antetokounmpo recording a triple-double in both games.

After Clinton took at 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Thomas Jones, Wisconsin starting pitcher Victor Castañeda did not give up another hit through five innings as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated Beloit 2-1 in the season and home opener. The Timber Rattlers tied the game in the bottom of the first inning. Brewers top prospect Garrett Mitchell reached on an infield single to start the inning. Hayden Cantrelle followed with a double to right and Mitchell scored easily. Wisconsin took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nick Kahle grounded into a 5-4-3 double play, but Cantrelle scored from third on the play. Timber Rattlers pitchers combined to retire 16 Beloit batters in a row at one point. The streak was snapped on a two-out walk in the eighth.  The game ended on an 8-4 double play when Mitchell caught a line drive to center a doubled up a runner at second.

Milwaukee Bucks television play-by-play announcer Jim Paschke says he will retire at the end of the season. Paschke announced his decision before the Bucks’ Tuesday night game with the Brooklyn Nets. Paschke has called over 2,000 Bucks games over the last 35 seasons.  His overall broadcasting career has lasted 48 years. Paschke also has called games for University of Wisconsin football and basketball, the Milwaukee Brewers and Marquette basketball among other assignments.
