Johnson And Johnson Vaccine Back On The Market

A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force believes the right decision was made by putting Johnson & Johnson’s COVID vaccine back on the market. It’s being done so carrying a warning that the vaccine might in rare occasions cause blood clots after six people who got the shots suffered blood clots. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says those who suffered the clots were out of over 6 million who had received the vaccine. “They put it back on the market without reservation but with a warning on the label like a lot of medicines, listen to any TV ad and you can see what they say about all of the side effects that come with many of the medicines that we are used to.” He points out the odds of suffering from side effects from the vaccine are more than one in a million. He says chances of being struck by lightning are 500,000 to one and hardly anyone knows anybody that has been struck by lightning.

Masks Coming Off For Rosendale Brandon School District

Rosendale-Brandon Schools Superintendent Wayne Weber

The Rosendale-Brandon School District will end its face mask requirement on Saturday. District Superintendent Wayne Weber says the school board voted to end the requirement during their meeting Monday. The state no longer requires it and Fond du Lac County is ending its requirement for county buildings today. “Then throw in that Fond du Lac County do to the metrics bars and restaurants are able to be open at 100 percent capacity. We are just looking at a different time than what we had last August.” Weber says in a poll last July 60 percent of respondents to a survey didn’t want to see a masking requirement in the district to protect students and staff from COVID-19, but the school board felt it was a good precaution to take. Another recent poll had a similar outcome, but the atmosphere is different than it was last summer. Weber says the district has been able to remain open since last fall despite the health crisis, but they would put the mask mandate back in place if it were necessary.

Railroad Sale Not Surprising

Envision Greater Fond du Lac President and CEO Sadie Parafiniuk says they’ve known for a year and a half that Canadian National Railroad was selling its railroad tracks in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Governor Evers announced the sale of 650 miles of track to logistics company Watco in the past month. Watco also operates the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad which connects to the CN line and other Class I railroads. Parafiniuk says many businesses looking to locate in Fond du Lac County inquire about rail access. She says businesses like Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon and the Oshkosh Corporation do quite a bit of business by rail. More than 170 million tons of freight is moved by rail in Wisconsin each year.

Badger State Sheriff’s Mailing Is Legitimate

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says a recent mailing from the Badger State Sheriff’s Association is a legitimate mailing seeking support for sheriff’s offices statewide. The Badger State Sheriff’s Association represents all 72 Wisconsin Sheriff’s. Schmidt is the current Vice President of the association. He says the purpose of the mailing is to give residents the opportunity to show support for the constitutional office of sheriff in the state as they work to protect everyone’s constitutional rights. Some scams use the names of law enforcement organizations in trying to scam money or information from people.
