FDL Woman Charged In Drug Overdose Death

Amber Schuster

A 33-year-old Fond du Lac woman suspected of supplying a Fond du Lac man with the fentanyl that led to his overdose death made her initial court appearance on a first degree reckless homicide as party to a crime charge this week. Amber Schuster was in Fond du Lac County court Tuesday on the charge stemming from the March 27th, 2020 death. According to the criminal complaint Schuster, the victim and another person went down to Milwaukee to get heroin from a dealer Schuster knew. An autopsy by the County Medical Examiner revealed levels of amphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl in the victim’s system, but the level of fentanyl was 7 times the lethal dose for fentanyl, which would have been enough alone to kill him. Schuster’s bond was set at $5,000 cash and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11th.

The interstate was closed in both directions for about nine hours.

FDL County DA Comments On Chauvin Trial

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says justice was served with the guilty verdicts in the Derek Chauvin trial in Minnesota this week. He says a lot went into the prosecution of the former Minneapolis police officer for the death of George Floyd, but he credits the police officers that worked and testified in the case and the Minnesota legal system. However, Toney also says there are many good law enforcement officers out there and they shouldn’t be grouped in with Chauvin and what he did. “The actions of Derek Chauvin are in no way representative of our law enforcement as a whole in our community, the state or our country. There are amazing men and women that serve and protect our communities to help keep us safe and risk their lives on a daily basis and at times as we know here in Fond du Lac County will give their lives to keep us safe.” Toney says the jury in the Chauvin trial was presented with a complete case to consider, which is why their verdict is just.

Masks On

Ripon Community COVID 19 Task Force member Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says even if you are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus it would be helpful to continue to where a face mask out in public. Puhlmann-Becker also serves on a task force for his church whose membership asked whether you should continue wearing a face mask even if you have been fully immunized against COVID. They felt it is still important. “And the answer is yes it is a marginal inconvenience to keep you a little bit safer and to keep other people safer and at this point in the pandemic it is a matter of keeping everybody safe.” He notes with just under half of the adult population in the United State needing to be vaccinated it would be a good idea for your sake and theirs.

COVID Precautions Working For The Ripon School District

Ripon Schools Superintendent Mary Whitrock says precautions remain in place for in-person learning and extracurricular activities while the pandemic continues. “Really for the most part we kept all of our precautions the same because just because they are working and it allows us to keep our kids in school and our goal has been to normalize our school year as much as possible.” She says with the precautions in place they’ve been able to offer more of the typical activities associated with school including a school musical, and the upcoming prom, graduation and other activities. Whitrock notes they will also be able to offer in-person summer school this year unlike the last school year.

Drug Take Back Day Saturday

Over 290 local law enforcement agencies will be participating in Drug Take Back Day across the state tomorrow. State residents are encouraged to dispose of unwanted and unused medications at Drug Take Back and drug disposal locations. There are 13 drug drop boxes located across Fond du Lac County at police stations and at hospitals in Fond du Lac, Ripon and Waupun.
