Potential New Witness For Steven Avery

The attorney for Steven Avery says a new witness alleges he saw Teresa Halbach’s vehicle planted at the Avery Salvage Yard in Manitowoc County after her murder. Kathleen Zellner says the new evidence will show Avery’s nephew, Bobby Dassey was involved in the murder and framing of her client. She filed a motion with the Wisconsin Court of Appeals District II asking to stay the appeal so Avery can file a motion disclosing new evidence and to introduce a third-party suspect. According to the filing Thomas Sowinski, a former driver for Gannett Newspapers, delivered papers to the Avery Salvage Yard during the morning hours of November 5th, 2005. Sowinski alleges he witnessed Bobby Dassey, and an older man pushing a dark blue RAV-4 down Avery Road towards the junkyard. Sowinski says he delivered papers to Avery’s mailbox and when he tried to leave Bobby Avery tried to step in front of Sowinski’s vehicle to block him from leaving. Bobby Avery was a star witness in Steven Avery’s trial.

Tornado Siren Policy Changes

The National Weather Service began a new policy last year of only sounding outdoor warning sirens in areas where a Tornado Warning has been issued. Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says the county didn’t see that new policy practiced in the county last year because there were no tornadoes in the county.  But the National Weather Service did confirm 20 tornadoes touched down in the state in 2020. Hicken says if you do hear a tornado siren in your area go to your designated shelter right away. This week is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness week in Wisconsin. It will feature two tornado drills on Thursday at 1:45 and 6:45 pm when people are encouraged to go to their designated shelter and talk over their severe weather plan.

Robin Wolzenburg says it affected their quality of life by limiting visitors and activities. She says recent surveys show with the majority of those residents now vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to have visitors things are turning around.  Nursing homes and long-term care facilities still have precautions in place for visitors. Wolzenburg also is a member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force.
