COVID Vaccine Provides Protection Against Variants

A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says there’s no guarantee you won’t get the coronavirus if you are vaccinated against it, but it will mitigate to what extent you suffer the symptoms. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says it will reduce the likelihood that you will be hospitalized or worse if you get the required amount of the vaccine. As for the variants that have mutated from the original virus he says the vaccine should protect you from those as well according to medical experts. “It appears to the extent it’s that is has been tested and to the extent that we have real world data. It appears that the body is quite effective at fighting off the variants when you’re fully vaccinated with the current vaccines.” The latest variant is a “Double Mutant” found in the San Francisco Bay area.

Broadband Access Survey

The Director of Administration for Fond du Lac County says the county and its residents could greatly benefit from the results of a residential and business survey about broadband access in the county. Erin Gerred says Envision Greater Fond du Lac is partnering with the county on the survey. She says the residential survey is brief and only asks a few questions. “Two pages with some real simple questions people can answer regarding what kind of service they have if they are satisfied with it and how many users are in that household. We have I believe about 1,700 returned so far.” She says ultimately they use those surveys to create a map that shows where there are deficiencies in service.  Fond du Lac County is one of six counties selected to participate in the Broadband Connectors Pilot. The survey is available at the Envision website under the “about” tab.
