The Bucks continue their lengthy homestand tonight by hosting the New Orleans Pelicans. Milwaukee pounded the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night 139-112 behind Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 37 points as seven players scored in double figures. New Orleans (14-17) in the Western Conference beat the Pistons at home last night 128-118. The Bucks (19-13) come into the game a half game behind second-place Brooklyn and two games behind first-place Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference.
Tiger Woods won’t face criminal charges related to his single-car rollover crash Tuesday that left him hospitalized with multiple leg fractures. This according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva on Wednesday. Investigators will check the car’s black box to gain information about speed, but no criminal charges are expected. Villanueva confirmed the conclusion from a responding officer that there was “no evidence of impairment” in a video conference with reporters Wednesday. Asked if Woods might face reckless driving charges, Villanueva said no saying “This is purely an accident.”
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Villanueva said that investigators hope to determine the speed of Woods’ vehicle prior to the collision and couldn’t rule if Woods was considered a distracted driver. Distracted driving would be considered an infraction rather than a criminal charge. Woods’ vehicle struck a median and traveled several hundred feet before coming to a stop in a gully. The collision occurred as Woods was driving down a steep, curvy section of a road south of Los Angeles known to be problematic for speeding drivers. Woods was removed from his vehicle by emergency responders and taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center on Tuesday with a shattered ankle and compound fractures in his right leg. Nobody else was in the car.
Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Lorenzo Cain is back at spring training with the Brewers and has no regrets about opting out of nearly the entire 2020 season but realizes his long layoff could create some obstacles now that he’s back. Cain played just five games last year before sitting out the rest of the season. The 2018 NL All-Star and 2019 Gold Glove winner says his time away helped strengthen his faith and allowed him to grow closer to his wife and three young sons.
Meanwhile, Travis Shaw is back in Milwaukee to give the Brewers one more option for their unsettled situation at third base. Shaw has signed a minor league contract with the Brewers that includes an invitation to major-league camp. Shaw last played for the Brewers from 2017-19. He had two productive seasons with the Brewers from 2017-18 before tailing off dramatically in 2019. Shaw spent the 2020 season with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Brewers enter spring training without a clear-cut starting third baseman.
Day 12 of the sturgeon spearing season saw a slight increase in fish harvested from the previous day. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says 40 fish were harvested Wednesday on Lake Winnebago, bringing season totals to 217 juvenile females, 587 adult females and 493 males. As was expected, harvest this week has been low, and caps remain distant. After Wednesday, 93 juvenile females, 183 adult females and 342 males remain. With warmer weather in the forecast, the DNR says water clarity could take a hit heading into the weekend. With reports of some landings and access points becoming slushy, spearers are encouraged to check with fishing clubs around the lake for updates on ice conditions.
An Indiana man is the 23rd member of the Packers Fan Hall of Fame. George Oudhuis of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, received word of his selection in a surprise video chat with Green Bay Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy on Wednesday. The team says Oudhuis has been a Packers fan since he was 9 years old. Since then, he has spent his life collecting team memorabilia, sharing his love for the Packers with visitors, friends and loved ones, and encouraging the next generation of fans. Oudhuis received a key to the City of Green Bay in 2013, when he helped unveil the street sign marking Donald Driver Way. Oudhuis was a four-time finalist for the Fan Hall of Fame. More than 71,800 total votes were cast in the Fan Hall of Fame election in January. For being selected, Oudhuis will receive four club seat tickets to a 2021 Packers home game, a $500 Packers Pro Shop gift certificate, a road trip for two to a 2021 Packers away game and a one-year subscription to Packer Plus. His name will also be displayed at the Packers Hall of Fame.
