Day 12 of the sturgeon spearing season saw 40 fish speared on Lake Winnebago, bringing the season total to 1,297 and 1,641 on the Winnebago System. The DNR says successful spearers maintain that many shacks have been pulled to shore for the season. The harvest trend is expected to continue during the workweek and increase over the final weekend of the season. For the third straight day the largest fish taken weighed less than 100 pounds. Jakob Jaeger took that fish, which weighed 98.6 pounds and measured 72.5 inches in length.
