Fatal Snowmobile Accident In FDL County
The state’s DNR is investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man Saturday afternoon in Fond du Lac County. According to Sheriff’s reports the mishap occurred near Sunny Knoll and Dixon Road near Brandon. A caller reported finding a man unresponsive and not breathing. A preliminary investigation of the scene found the man lost control of his sled and struck a tree.
Ripon Man Facing Charges For Incident In Library Parking Lot
A 35-year-old Ripon man is facing methamphetamine possession, resisting an officer, disorderly conduct and other charges following a run-in with police at the Ripon Public Library last December. Police got a report about a man parked in a handicapped parking spot that was shirtless and laying across the seats of the vehicle. According to the criminal complaint Devin Berg was not cooperative with officers and when he latched onto the arm of an officer trying to remove him from the vehicle the officer had to threaten to use a taser on him before he would let go. Berg appeared to be under the influence. Residue found in a glass pipe tested positive for methamphetamine and other items in the car had crystal residue on them. Berg was taken to the hospital to get medical clearance where he insulted medical staff and police officers with derogatory comments. He has two previous convictions in Waushara County for marijuana possession and was on probation at the time of the incident at the library.
Endeavor Man Arrested For Fifth OWI
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 44-year-old Endeavor man for his fifth operating while intoxicated offense early Saturday morning. Sheriff Roger Brandner says they got a request from Marquette County to locate Jodi Loging regarding an investigation in their jurisdiction. Loging was found in a vehicle on West Lane Road in the Town of Caledonia. He showed signs of impairment from alcohol. He was taken to the Columbia County Jail where he refused to take a field sobriety test and was arrested. He was booked into the jail on several charges including the OWI charge and violating probation.

Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says they will be adding dispatching staff when the Ripon consolidates its dispatch with the County. She says they will need additional staff and at least one of Ripon’s four dispatchers has already gone through the process to join county dispatch when the transition is complete. “Kind of the extent of the offer is that she remain with Ripon and help them until the dispatch center closes and then she will be coming over.” She says another dispatcher from Ripon is also going through the process of joining them. The Ripon Common Council this past week held a closed session in which they worked on severance packages for the four dispatchers for when after Ripon’s Dispatch Center closes.
Poor Voter Turnout Expected
Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg is not expecting a big turnout for today’s primary election. The election will narrow the list of candidates for some locals races and for a Fond du Lac County judge’s seat and State Superintendent of Schools for the April 6th Spring Election. But Freiberg says the turnout will vary depending on local races for instance in Fond du Lac there are races for the City Council and School Board. She says it would be amazing to have more than a 20 percent turnout of registered voters at the polls across the county, but she isn’t counting on it. “However I did order for county wide more towards a 14 to 15 percent turnout. Four years ago we saw like a 10 percent turnout for the most for February.”

Not everyone can be out on Lake Winnebago or the Upriver Lakes throughout the sturgeon spearing season looking for that big fish. Joe from Madison told us he only had opening weekend to spear and wasn’t able to get that sturgeon, but unlike past trips he and his buddy did see one swim through their hole about a three or four-footer. “We saw one, we’ve never seen one in the past so that’s kind of new for us it’s only our fourth year doing this so. Clarity was great we were at 10 feet and we could see the bottom so we were doing great. We didn’t even have time to throw.” He says the sport attracts a good, but different kind of group of people and eventually they hope to pass the tradition on to their kids. The DNR estimates there were 4,326 shacks on Lake Winnebago Sunday and another 389 on the Upriver Lakes.
