Sports for February 11th

The Milwaukee Bucks had their five-game winning streak snapped last night in Phoenix as the Suns edged the Bucks 125-124.  Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 47 points to lead all scorers and Khris Middleton added 18. Devin Booker led the Suns with 30 and Chris Paul added 28.  The Bucks (16-9) are two games behind Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference while the Suns (15-9) are in fourth place in the Western Conference, 4 ½ games behind the Utah Jazz. Milwaukee continues its road trip at Utah on Friday.

Wisconsin won 61-48 at Nebraska Wednesday night.  The 21st ranked Badgers improved to 15-8 while the Cornhuskers fell to 4-11. Jonathan Davis led Wisconsin with 14 points. Wisconsin hosts third-ranked Michigan on Sunday.

Sources say a familiar face to the Green Bay Packers will be on the opposing sideline two times a season.  ESPN reports the Chicago Bears have hired former Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine as their new senior defensive assistant, helping the team’s new defensive coordinator, Sean Densai.  The Packers didn’t renew Pettine’s contract this year when it expired. He had previously been hired in 2018 by Mike McCarthy.  Pettine was released in late January, and the Packers formally announced Joe Barry had been hired as his replacement earlier this week.  Barry had previously worked with the Detroit Lions, Washington, and the Rams. In addition, he and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur were on the same coaching staff with the Rams in 2017 under head coach Sean McVay.

The United States Golf Association announced that SentryWorld in Stevens Point will host the 43rd U.S. Senior Open Championship in 2023. The event will be from June 29-July 2.

“The USGA is pleased to return to SentryWorld and the state of Wisconsin to conduct the most prestigious championship in senior golf,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA senior managing director, Championships. “We know that the region and community will enthusiastically support the U.S. Senior Open and that SentryWorld will provide a complete test for an international field competing for the Francis D. Ouimet Memorial Trophy.”

SentryWorld hosted the 2019 US Girls Junior Championship, an event that set the wheels in motion for the U.S. Senior Open.  The 2023 U.S. Senior Open will be the 17th USGA championship held in Wisconsin.
